Trevor Hall: Album Out Now Tour w/ Franti & Matisyahu

TREVOR HALL CONTINUES HIS SUCCESSFUL CROSS-COUNTRY TOUR

FEATURING UPCOMING SHOWS WITH MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD, COLBIE CAILLAT AND MATISYAHU

HALL’S SELF-TITLED VANGUARD RECORDS DEBUT AVAILABLE NOW

“I just wanna melt away in all its grace, drift away to that sacred place where there’s no more you and me no more they and we just unity.”

From “Unity,” written by Trevor Hall and Matisyahu

Trevor Hall

After a series of sold-out shows over the summer, Trevor Hall is hitting the road again – this time with friends and artists who have also lent their voices on Hall’s new self-titled Vanguard CD (check it out for free below). Hall is on tour now with Michael Franti & Spearhead. On the heels of that tour, Hall joins up with his friend Colbie Caillat for the month of October. Caillat is featured on Hall’s new recording of “The Lime Tree.” Hall will be performing special acoustic sets with percussionist Chris Steele on the run with Caillat, and then rejoins his band for the month of November with dear friend Matisyahu, who co-wrote and performs on Hall’s song “Unity.” Hall also performed and co-wrote four songs that appear on Matisyahu’s new album, Light.

Trevor Hall is a breath of fresh air in today’s music scene. His new album, produced by Marshall Altman (Matt Nathanson, Kate Voegele, Marc Broussard), embodies a soulfulness, depth and passion far beyond his 22 years. Hall combines a unique musical mix of reggae and acoustic rock that serve as a landscape for his thought-provoking, inspiring lyrics.

Autolux Tour The States

Autolux Announce Nationwide Tour

Autolux

Los Angeles’ Autolux is about to embark on a national U.S. tour this fall, playing some of their first-ever headlining shows. These dates are Autolux’s first spin around the States since 2005, in support of their critically acclaimed debut album, Future Perfect. Band members Eugene Goreshter, Carla Azar and Greg Edwards plan to offer a preview of new material from their long-awaited, forthcoming album, Transit Transit.

The tour was born out of their confirmed slot at this September’s All Tomorrow’s Parties in New York, curated by The Flaming Lips. After announcing the festival date, and receiving numerous emails from fans around the country in hopes the band would book a tour soon, the three-piece felt this would be an ideal time to fill in the gaps – putting together a coast-to-coast, month-long run, which begins August 28 at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco.

Autolux have kept themselves busy doing other various projects throughout the making of Transit Transit. These include collaborating with UNKLE on a song for the album War Stories, composing music for an exhibit at the Museum of Natural History in Los Angeles called “Sonic Scenery,” and traveling to Russia to open for PJ Harvey. In February 2008, Carla went into the studio with PJ Harvey and John Parish to play drums on PJ Harvey’s latest album, A Woman A Man Walked By. Most recently, Autolux collaborated with Australian visual artist Kill Pixie for an installation room for his solo exhibition at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery, hosted by Tim Roth.

Lotus Pay What You Want Tour

LOTUS ANNOUNCE HUGE FALL TOUR, INCLUDING A “PAY-WHAT-YOU-WANT” WESTERN STATE RUN

THE BAND RELEASES A PAIR OF EPs ON OCTOBER 6: FEATHER ON WOOD AND OIL ON GLASS

Lotus

Lotus is about to break ground in a way that no other rock band has done prior – they are plotting a tour this fall that truly allows their legion of fans to pay-what-they-want for tickets. The “Pay-What-You-Want-Tour” featuring Lotus is an eight-night run of shows in western U.S. states, sponsored by Ticketweb, that lets the fans decide how much their show ticket will cost. At the $15.00 Pay-What-You-Want level or higher, fans receive free digital downloads of the band’s two new EPs Feather on Wood and Oil on Glass, both to be released on October 6, 2009.

The Pay-What-You-Want dates are part of Lotus’ larger Fall Tour, running from early-October through the end of the year. Big stops include performances at Denver’s Fillmore, NYC’s Terminal 5, Baltimore’s Sonar, Chicago’s Vic Theatre, and others. Lotus brings out several must-see opening acts for many of these shows, including Break Science ft Adam Deitch, The Egg (from London, U.K.), Big in Japan, and Big Gigantic. Don’t miss a few special small shows: here’s the scoop – two shows at NYC’s Mercury Lounge are being bundled with the T-5 ticket, and the same offer is available for the Denver shows (to get into Quixote’s, you must buy the Fillmore ticket).

Downloads of both new EPs will be bundled with advance ticket purchases for select Fall Tour dates including the three New York City shows, two Denver shows, both Boston shows and a few other shows to be determined. The material on both Feather on Wood and Oil on Glass can be directly traced back to Lotus’ 2008 full-length release, Hammerstrike. A number of songs were recorded that didn’t find their way onto Hammerstrike (either they hadn’t been finished by deadlines or they weren’t coalescing with the sound of that project), but after finishing the album, Lotus decided to revisit these tracks, and the results are extraordinary. Feather on Wood is sunnier with a laid-back vibe, yet not afraid of big rock beauty, while Oil on Glass is darker in character, with more head-nodding tempos.

Sea Wolf: New Album & Tour

Sea Wolf Reveals New LP, White Water, White Bloom, And Tour

Sea Wolf

An expansive collection of modern mythology and lush orchestration, Sea Wolf‘s sophomore LP, White Water, White Bloom, was penned by Alex Brown Church, produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk) and recorded with a full band (keyboardist Lisa Fendelander, bassist Ted Liscinski and drummer Joey Ficken) will be available September 22. The new songs were injected with a raw, dynamic energy that the band developed through extensive touring together. Many of the new tunes will be unveiled on a cross-country six-week tour beginning in September. Complete tour dates to be announced soon.

Written upon completion of Sea Wolf’s touring cycle behind Leaves In The River, Church followed his muse to Montreal and began work on the band’s second album. Set against the changing of seasons, the record unfolds like an epic poem over 10 tracks. Pulsing with evocations of nature at its most elemental, Sea Wolf’s songs are filled with vivid imagery and a cinematic sense of movement.

Return Of Os Mutantes

Os Mutantes Announce North American Tour

In Support Of Haih or Amortecedor Their First Album In 35 Years

Os Mutantes

Os Mutantes have announced a tour of North America in support of their new album Haih or Amortecedor. Seeing the legendary “Tropicália” band live is something Kurt Cobain could have only wished for when he pleaded (unsuccessfully) for them to reunite and tour with Nirvana. Now Brazil’s beloved Mutantes, long regarded as one of the most influential and innovative bands in pop music, have returned with both an ambitious new album and a series of highly anticipated performances. Revered by musical luminaries, the reunited Mutantes offer something far more intriguing than mere psychedelic nostalgia. While the ingenious genre blending Tropicália spirit remains intact on Haih or Amortecedor, it’s clear the Mutantes are not looking to the past, but ahead into further uncharted musical terrain.

Band leader Sergio Dias says he is eager to translate the epic Mutante sound on stage. “I love playing this music live,” Dias says. “It is the best thing possible. When we were playing at the Pitchfork festival it was like looking at yourself when you were a kid trying to mumble the words to “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” in English and not understanding the words. There weren’t many Brazilians there but the kids were singing our songs in Portuguese. Playing with this band live is amazing. I can not describe anything better other than maybe going into space. It keeps me young.”

Buffett to star in children’s cartoon

The Secret Millionaires Club to feature an animated character of the billionaire investor giving advice on the art of finance

The so-called Sage of Omaha, Warren Buffett, is a billionaire, a philanthropist, a stockpicker and an author. In a new turn for his veteran career, the wily 78-year-old investor will shortly add cartoon star to that list.

An animated character of Buffett is to tutor children about the art of finance in a series called The Secret Millionaires Club, to be created by the internet empire AOL and media production firm A Squared Media. Episodes lasting three to five minutes will initially appear on AOL, before being distributed more broadly across the web via social networking sites.

The world’s second richest man is in august company. Others featuring in cartoons as part of the same project include the supermodel Gisele Bündchen, who plays a superhero protecting the environment, and Martha Stewart, who will educate viewers in cooking, crafting, gardening and creating “unforgettable” events.

Nebraska-based Buffett has built a vast army of US followers who admire his flair for picking successful investments and acquisitions. His fortune is estimated at $37bn (£22.5bn), ranking second only to Bill Gates’s $40bn on Forbes magazine’s annual ranking of the world’s richest people.

Buffett said the credit crunch served as a reminder of the need to teach children about money: “What better time to help educate our kids about financial responsibility.”

It has been a tough year for Buffett, by his own high financial standards. The billionaire’s Berkshire Hathaway investment company suffered a rare drop in its asset value during 2008, partly due to what Buffett admitted were some “dumb” choices. Berkshire recently lost its cherished triple-A credit rating and its shares have slipped by 18% over the last 12 months.

Nevertheless, a charity auction for a steak lunch with Buffett recently raised $1.68m.

Lou Barlow: Album & Tour

Lou Barlow Readies His Solo Release And Preps For Tour

Lou Barlow

On October 6, Merge Records will release Lou Barlow‘s new album, Goodnight Unknown. In the four years since his career-redefining, mostly acoustic record Emoh, Lou Barlow has reunited with Dinosaur Jr. and reissued three of Sebadoh‘s classic albums. But as the brilliant new Goodnight Unknown illustrates, he’s hardly living in the past. Borrowing the live-band energy of Dinosaur Jr. and the stylistic reach of Sebadoh, Barlow has built on Emoh‘s full production and written a set of immediate, melodic pop songs that Lou describes as, “a cross between my later work with Folk Implosion and my earlier work with Sebadoh… to my ears, anyway.”

From the surging opening track “Sharing” to the surprisingly soulful performances on “The Right,” Goodnight Unknown benefits from Barlow’s tunefulness and his decision to record the record relatively quickly, with old friends and new. The MelvinsDale Crover adds inspired drum work throughout, and Goodnight Unknown‘s urgent sound owes just as much to frequent Barlow collaborator Imaad Wasif (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Alaska!). The record’s considerable power also stems from the new talents on board, including producer Andrew Murdock and Lisa Germano.

Lou Barlow + The Missingmen will be on tour throughout the fall opening for Dinosaur Jr. The Missingmen are guitarist Tom Watson and drummer Raul Morales. Lou “stole” them from Mike Watt for this tour, and is excited to be bringing you the full band experience of Goodnight Unknown.

Magnolia Electric Co. Album/Tour

MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC CO.’S Josephine Now Up For Pre-Order
Includes Free Digital Download For Exclusive 7-inch

Magnolia Electric Co.

Now is the time to stake your claim on a copy of Josephine, the first LP from Magnolia Electric Co. in three years. Pre-orders of the album will come with a free, digital download of the 2009 limited-pressing 7-inch, It’s Made Me Cry. The 7-inch is a bit of an interlude into It’s Made Me Cry.

Like on the 7-inch, Josephine is also an experiment in Molina’s songcraft, introducing some real lessons in brevity as he whittles a handful of tracks into well-under three minutes, all while taking cues from great songsmiths like Willie Nelson and Warren Zevon.

Next week, Magnolia Electric Co. will set off on a North American tour with San Diego’s The Donkeys, a tour that includes a two-night stand in Molina’s beloved Chicago.
