Analysts divided on Golden Agri’s food ops foray

Analysts are divided on Golden Agri-Resources’ (E5H.SG) foray into food business via US$142.8 million ($197 million) purchase of sister firm Asia Food & Properties’ (A26.SG) China-based noodles production business, says Dow Jones.

“We are positive on the latest development as it is in line with its stated strategy to expand its distribution reach in China,” says OCBC’s Carey Wong, who has Buy call with $0.72 target.

Olam to buy ConAgra dried veggies ops for $354m

Olam International, the global, integrated supply chain manager and processor of agricultural products and food ingredients, says the company will acquire the dehydrated and vegetable products business and operating assets of Gilroy Foods & Flavors from ConAgra Foods, Inc., including its dehydrated onion, garlic, capsicum, Controlled Moisture vegetables, GardenFrost purees, RediMade shelf-stable purees and fresh vegetable operations, for US$250 million ($354 million).

ComfortDelgro off 0.7%; risks from bus ops, FX, says RBS

ComfortDelgro (C52.SG) is off 0.7% at $1.48 in thin trade as mild 1Q10 profit growth not enough to draw buyers, according to Dow Jones.

“We believe the upcoming revamp of the bus networks in Singapore will squeeze margins (while) the company’s various overseas investments will bring additional forex risks which are not compensated by stronger earnings growth prospects,” says Royal Bank of Scotland, which has a Sell call with $1.35 target.

F&N off 0.2%; property ops still resilient: DBS

Fraser & Neave (F99.SG) is off 0.2% at $4.65, succumbing to mild profit-taking after Friday’s run-up to 21-month high of $4.66, says DBS Vickers, according to Dow Jones.

The stock one of this year’s best performers among blue chips, rising 11% since beginning January vs STI down 0.3% over same period, driven by strong food & beverage business, expectations demand for conglomerate’s Singapore residential projects will remain resilient despite recent government moves to cool property market.

F&N gains 2.7%; good time to sell non-core ops

Fraser & Neave (F99.SG) is up 2.7% at 20-month high of $4.57, extending recent solid gains since bottoming out at $3.71 in early February.

“The main driver for the stock in the last one, two months is their F&B business, pretty much their consumer business,” an analyst at foreign brokerage told Dow Jones Newswires. F&B, property arms accounted for bulk of F&N’s $135.6 million earnings for December quarter.
