“Government spreading false optimism”

The current Serbian government has taken to “spreading false optimism”, says the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS). Instead of tackling real economic problems, the cabinet of Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković has been diverting attention from them, DSS Vice-President Nenad Popović told a news conference in Belgrade on Monday.

STI +1%; optimism abounds in first session of 2011

STI +1.0% at 3222.93 after gapping up at the open to regain the 3200 level, which analysts say is key to determine the market’s direction.

FM: Reasons for optimism exist

STI stays flat at as optimism on Singapore’s economy wanes: DBS Vickers

U.S. December job losses rise

Disappointing news on the jobs front from the U.S. Employers there laid off 85,000 people in December. That was a lot more than economists had predicted and was a blow to recent optimism about a recovery in the labor market.

“Moderate optimism for unfreezing of SAA”

Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčak said that there is reason for “careful optimism” regarding the potential unfreezing of the SAA. “I think that positive progress has been made, and everyone now is expecting the new report from chief prosecutor Serge Brammertz. I think that there are reasons for careful optimism,” Lajčak told Belgade daily Večernje Novosti regarding the chances that the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between Serbia and the EU could be implemented.
