Facebook Pages Eschews ‘Become a Fan’ for ‘Like’ Link

Facebook said users will soon be able to join member brand pages by clicking like, arguing that users are universally more comfortable with the expression than the current become a fan option. This change will roll out in April on Facebook Pages. Altimeter Group founding analyst Charlene Li told eWEEK this should drive more people to engage, but will cause some confusion in the short term as the like of a brand, team, celebrity, etc., carries more weight than the like of an update status inside the News Feed.

Global Yellow Pages enters into licensing agreement with MediaCorp

Global Yellow Pages Limited (GYPL), the publisher of directory services and leading search engine, today announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with MediaCorp Pte Ltd (MediaCorp), allowing it to reproduce and use GYPL’s data on MediaCorp’s Mocca.

The licensing agreement is significant for mainboard-listed GYPL as it marks a step in GYPL’s efforts to license its valuable and vast database to third parties.

Global Yellow Pages posts net profit falls by half to $9.4m for 9M09

Global Yellow Pages, the publisher of telephone directories and provider of classified directory advertising reported group revenue for the nine months ended Dec 31 2009 (9MFY2010) of $31.2 million, a decrease of $25.2 million compared to the corresponding period last year due to the revised publication dates for the Singapore Phone Directories Consumer and Chinese editions and also the impact of the economic recession.

Google Caps First Click Free at Five Pages to Appease Publishers

Google Dec. 1 is letting publishers limit the number of articles readers can view for free on its search and Google News site to five per day. The move came the same day News Corp. founder and publishing mogul Rupert Murdoch lashed out at online aggregators for raking in ad revenues from content without compensating publishers. Murdoch, who threatened last month to de-index the Wall Street Journal and other paid content from Google, is reportedly working on a deal that would make Google rival Microsoft Bing’s fledgling search engine an exclusive host partner of Journal and other News Corp. content.
