SPC assembly starts in Belgrade

The Serbian Orthodox Church and its believers today marked the first anniversary of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle’s passing. SPC bishops from the country and abroad and several hundred people gathered at the Rakovica monastery to take part in the ceremonies.

More than 600,000 people gathered in Belgrade this Thursday for the funeral ceremonies of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Pavle, police said. The spiritual leader of the Serb Orthodox Christians was laid to rest this afternoon at the Monastery of the Holy Archangels in Rakovica, near Belgrade, next to Patriarch Dimitrije, who headed the Serb Church from 1920 until 1930.

Kosovo Serbs organize to attend funeral

Patriarch Pavle to be laid to rest on Thursday

The head of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), His Holiness Patriarch Pavle, has died in Belgrade at the age of 95, it has been announced. The patriarch passed away at 10:45 CET on Sunday, at Belgrade’s military clinic VMA, where he had been receiving medical treatment since November 2007. The clinic announced that he died in his sleep.

The Serbian government has proclaimed three days of mourning in honor of the late Serbian Orthodox Church head His Holiness Patriarch Pavle. The days of mourning will be observed from November 16-18.
