Matador At 21: Tickets On Sale Friday
PAVEMENT, SONIC YOUTH, GUIDED BY VOICES, AND MORE
![]() Pavement |
Tickets for Matador’s 21st anniversary shows taking place October 1-3 at The Palms
in Las Vegas will go on sale this Friday, July at 9 am,
PST. The lineup includes Pavement, Sonic Youth, Guided By Voices, Belle & Sebastian, Spoon, and more.
From the Matador Website:
Tickets/Pricing: An initial quantity will be on sale Friday for $199.00. After the $199.00 tickets sell
out, the
price increases to $225. A Ticketfly.com link will be posted on this site on Thursday, July 8. Starting Friday, you’ll
have the opportunity to reserve standard rooms at the Palms for the discounted rate of $99 per night (the full 3
nights of the festival, only). The rooms feature two double bed and occupancy of up to 4 persons is allowed. The
above rate is only available when purchasing tickets thru us. If you are interested in upgrading to a larger room or a
suite you will be able to do so after purchasing the standard room. TICKETS FOR THE 3 NIGHTS + ROOMS are being
sold jointly — we’re not selling tickets to the shows separately at this time, nor are we selling tickets for individual
nights.
(ADDENDUM): Just to clear up any confusion, if, for example, you’re buying 4 tickets to the shows, the $99
per night
hotel fee can cover up to 4 people. $297 over 3 nights divided by 4 is hopefully not an crazy amount to charge for
rooms in a world class resort).
VIP tickets: A limited number of VIP packages will be available at $399.00 — details about what you’ll
get for the
$399 are forthcoming. You’ll have the ability to upgrade from the regular tickets, assuming the VIP tickets aren’t
sold out.

Seventeen years after being fired from the band due to drug and alcohol abuse, and
(allegedly) threatening lead

Malkmus
with a gun, original Pavement drummer Gary Young will be appearing with the band
for their
homecoming show on June 24 at the Bob Hope Theater in Stockton, CA, according to Matador’s blog. The reunion is
believed to be a one off

Last night at Town Hall in Auckland, NZ, Pavement played their first show in over 10 years. The band busted out a 25-song set that began with “In the Mouth a Desert,” from 1992′s full-length debut, Slanted and Enchanted and went on to include “Grounded,” “Cut Your Hair,” “Gold Soundz,” “Shady Lane,” “Rattled by the Rush,” “Range Life,” “Stereo,” and “Spit on a Stranger” amongst others.
Following the show, guitarist Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg hit up his blog where he reported: “We were seriously nervous! The show was great. The fans were unreal. Whew… all those Pavement anxiety dreams can now go away!”

Pavement Reunion Confirmed! Tix for 9/21/10 pre-sale tomm
Pavement Reunion Tour Confirmed for 2010
![]() Pavement |
Yesterday we told you about the rumors of a Pavement reunion, today we are confirming it!
After years of speculation, one of – if not the – most important American band of the Nineties is returning to the stage with the lineup of Mark Ibold, Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg, Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich and Steve West reuniting for dates around the world in 2010. Please be advised this tour is not a prelude to additional jaunts and/or a permanent reunion.
Described in their own Wikipedia entry as having experienced “moderate commercial success,” Pavement’s catalog for the Matador, Domino, Drag City and Treble Kicker imprints has come to define in the eyes of many the blueprint for independent rock over the past generation. An evidentiary compilation release is planned to coincide with the touring sometime in 2010.
The first show announced is a New York performance on September 21, 2010 at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. A pre-sale begins at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Friday, September 18, 2009 (tomorrow). The password for the pre-sale is ZOWEE and the ticketing link is www.ticketmaster.com/event/00004330A3C355DD. The general on-sale is slated for 10:00 a.m. EDT on Friday, September 25, 2009. Please note that tickets will be available without surcharges from the Nokia Theatre box office in Times Square and from Earwax at 218 Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg.
Please visit http://www.crookedrain.com for details on this on-sale as well as all Pavement news as it develops.
Pavement Reunion Fall 2010?
Pavement To Reunite Fall 2010?
![]() Pavement |
According to multiple sources, it appears that legendary indie rock heroes Pavement will reunite! While details are shady at the moment, both Pitchfork.com and Brooklynvegan.com (amongst others) are reporting that Pavement is set to play at least one (maybe up to four) shows at New York’s Central Park SummerStage at the end of September 2010. Clearly this is a long ways off and we’ll be sure to keep you posted on developments over the next year! Talk is already starting to spread about Coachella, All Tomorrow’s Parties and more, we’ll keep you posted.
Pavement played their final concert at London’s Brixton Academy on November 20, 1999.
A certain age
The heat has brought out a new plague of mad, show-off, kamikaze-style boy cyclists. I have never been all that keen on cyclists, ever since the dog was mown down and I was nearly sliced in two on the pavement, but compared with this new lot, the old-style cycle maniac is Fotherington-Thomas.
The latest sort tend to come out on warm evenings and have a new type of bike – minimalist, no gears, no lights. Bare-chested, or with shirts billowing in the wind, they swirl and wheelie about, across red lights, the wrong way up one-way streets, along pavements – no bells, no helmets, no fluorescent jackets. None of that cissy stuff, just top-speed, miss-death-by-half-a-whisker freestyle riding.
“They’re all boys, aren’t they?” says my friend Olga breezily, “That’s what they do. Give them any sort of vehicle and they’ll try and kill themselves in it.” She rather admires them, because she’s a cyclist herself. I had a terrific row with her in the car last week, me driving along in the dark, a whirling mass of shadowy boy cyclists weaving and zipping round the cars and hovering in blind spots, while Olga applauded them and admitted shooting red lights, nipping up one-way streets and along pavements herself.
“I’ve got every right to do it,” said she saucily. “There are no proper cycle lanes and those one way systems are terrifying. You all drive much too fast. The only safe place for cyclists is on the pavement.”
I had a shout, but Olga didn’t give a stuff. Last week a crazed motorist cut her up, called her a lesbian, and drove on to the pavement, trying to kill her. And Fielding had to jump off his bike and hurl himself into a hedge just before a mad motorist crushed his bike to pulp, on purpose.
There’s no arguing with Olga and Fielding. To them, it’s clear cut: cyclists green and good, motorists bad. They know they’re right. But I know I’m right. This is another war with no solution in sight. Let’s hope there aren’t too many casualties.
