S’pore NOL carries 26% more cargo in 7 weeks to Dec 31

Neptune Orient Lines (NEPS.SI) said on Monday its container shipping volumes for the seven weeks to Dec 31 rose 26% from a year ago, helped by higher traffic on the intra-Asia and Asia-Europe routes.

NOL, the world’s sixth largest container shipping firm, carried 394,500 forty-foot equivalent unit (FEU) during the seven-week period, up from 312,500 FEUs a year ago.

Volumes rose 8% over the same period last year on a normalised six-week period, the firm said.

The average revenue per FEU increased 21% year-on-year over the same period to US$2,647 ($3,396) per FEU, helped by improved freight rates on major trade lanes, in particular Tran-pacific and Asia-Europe.

Sapphire Corp. reports 33.2% fall in 3Q net profit to $3.1m

Sapphire Corporation, the producer of steel and vanadium products, says net profit attributable to equity holders for the July-September (3Q2010) period fell 33.2% to $3.1 million from the year ago period on the back of a 49% fall in revenue to $22.1 million.

For the January-September (9M2010) period, net profit soared to $88.4 million from $3.6 million for 9M2009, lifted by higher contributions from its steel subsidiary and a fair-value gain on a 9.2%-owned mine operator listed in Hong Kong.

Cache Logistics Trust rated ‘outperform’ by CIMB

CIMB in a July 30 research report says: “Cache’s maiden results after its April listing for the period 11 Feb-30 Jun 10 exceeded our expectations. DPU of 1.71 cents (annualised DPU of 7.81 cents) forms 31% of our forecast of 5.6 cents (adjusted from 5.2 cents for alignment with the reporting period).

Mandarin Oriental posts 1H earnings of $17.8m

Mandarin Oriental says earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation for the first six months of 2010 were US$58 million ($79.2 million) compared to US$35 million in the first half of 2009.

The group’s underlying profit for the period was US$13 million, up from US$1 million in the same period in 2009.

Noble Group unit extends Gloucester offer period to Sept. 3

A unit of Noble Group extended the close of its takeover offer for Gloucester Coal to Sept. 3, Gloucester said in a stock-exchange filing. Talks between Gloucester Coal independent directors and Noble on an alternative transaction are continuing, the company said in a separate filing.

NOL says container shipping volume rose 34% y-o-y in Period 4

Container shipper Neptune Orient Lines says for the four weeks of P4 2010 from 3 April to 30 April, container shipping volumes increased 34% to 212,000 FEU (Forty-foot Equivalent Unit) over the same period last year mainly due to higher volumes carried from the Intra-Asia and Transpacific trade lanes.

STX Pan Ocean swings back to black in 1Q with net income of $18.3m

STX Pan Ocean Co. reported a first-quarter net income of $18.3 million compared to the net loss of US$70 million for the corresponding period of 1Q 09.according to a statement the company sent to the Singapore stock exchange today.

The Korean bulk shipper achieved sales of US$1,163 million for the first quarter ended 2010 (1Q 10), an increase of US$394 million, or 51%, compared to the corresponding period last year (1Q 09).

Tiong Woon posts 35% rise in net profit to $9.6m for 3Q

Tiong Woon Corporation Holding, which specialises in heavy lift and installation of process equipments, has posted a net profit after tax of $9.6 million for the third quarter ended 31 March 2010, an increase of 35% over the $7.1 million it achieved in the previous corresponding period.

Group turnover fell 46.2% to $28.4 million compared to $52.8 million in the previous corresponding period.

Kian Ann Engineering posts 28% growth in net profit to $7.3m for 1H

Kian Ann Engineering, the distributor of heavy machinery parts, reported a 28.1% growth in net profit after tax of $7.3 million for the six-month ended 31 December 2009 (1HFY2010).

Group sales increased slightly by $0.2 million from $73.6 million to $73.8 million for the period under review. Sales from Malaysia climbed 17.2% or $3.1 million to $21.3 million, primarily due to a continuous recovery in demand for parts from timber and palm oil industries.

Sales from other Asian countries decreased by 8.1% from $7.8 million to $7.2 million for the period under review as a result of lower demand from India and Pakistan.

Hai Leck Holdings posts 6% rise in net profit to $6.3m in 1H

Hai Leck Holdings, the integrated service provider of scaffolding, corrosion prevention and insulation works, says it posted a net profit after tax of $6.3 million for the six months ended 31 December 2009 (1H2010), an increase of 6% over the $5.9 million it made in the previous corresponding period.

For the same period, Hai Leck made $68.7 million in revenue, a rise of 50% or $22.9 million from $45.7 million in the previous corresponding period. The increase is due mainly to higher revenue from on-going projects in the Project Services unit that were mostly contracted in FY2007 and late-FY2008.

Mercator posts net profit of US$27.8m for 9 months ending Dec

Mercator Lines (Singapore), the international dry bulk shipper for India and China, says it has achieved a net profit of US$27.8 million ($38.9 million) for the nine-month period from April to Dec 2009, a decline of about 55% compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.

The group’s revenue during the nine months of the current fiscal year (FY2010) dropped to US$105 million from US$120 million achieved for the same nine-month period in the previous fiscal (FY2009).
