The Black Keys are sleepy. The bluesy-rock duo, comprised of musicians Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, cancelled their tour of Australia — Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and Melbourne — and New Zealand this week due to exhaustion. Shows in Germany, Switzerland, and France scheduled for March have also been scrapped. In a statement Monday, the [...]

Australia’s Ponting goes in to bat for his job
Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting Saturday declared himself fit to play in the crucial fourth Ashes Test against England in Melbourne Sunday. The out-of-form batsman, who broke his little finger last weekend in the Perth Test that put the local side back in the game, admitted another low score Sunday would jeopardise his inclusion in [...]
Ponting looks good to play in Melbourne, says Clarke
Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke Friday said that skipper Ricky Ponting is almost certain to play in the fourth Ashes Test against England starting here Sunday. Clarke said Ponting felt good after a net session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and it will be difficult to keep him out of action on the Boxing Day. [...]
Australia ‘slight favourites’ to reclaim Ashes urn: Mark Waugh
Former opener Mark Waugh has said Australia’s emphatic victory in the Perth Test has made them favourites to reclaim the Ashes. The 267-run win for Ricky Ponting’s team in the third Ashes Test in Perth was made more remarkable by the fact that the home side went into the match as underdogs. Speaking on foxsports.com.au’s [...]
ComfortDelgro Corporation rated ‘buy’ by Kim Eng
Kim Eng Research in a Dec 17 research report says: “With the purchase of Swan Taxis in Perth completed, ComfortDelgro is now reported to be among eight companies vying to operate 850 metro buses in Adelaide, the capital of South Australia.
‘Ponting should take inspiration from ‘morphed’ Tendulkar to resurrect his batting’
Australian skipper Ricky Ponting should take inspiration from Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar in order to resurrect his fading batting form, a noted cricket columnist has said. Ponting, who has posted scores of 10, 51, 0 and nine for an average of 23.3 in the first two Tests, managed only 12 runs in Australia’s first [...]
Ponting may be axed as captain if Australia loses Ashes
Ricky Ponting has said he may have to step down as Australian skipper if the Ashes series is lost. Defeat in Perth, would force Ponting and selectors to face the question of his captaincy head-on, but it is doubtful the selectors would replace Ponting as skipper mid-way through the series even if England goes 2-0 [...]

Warne was never considered for Perth Ashes Test: Chappell
Australian selector Greg Chappell has said that leg-spin legend Shane Warne was never considered for third Ashes Test against England, starting in Perth on Thursday. Speculation that Australia’s all-time leading wicket taker could return to Test cricket had intensified after England won the Adelaide Test by an innings-and-71-runs to go 1-0 up in the five-match [...]
Just the ticket
With apologies to those who don’t like the rather peculiar – and very British Commonwealth-oriented game of cricket – there’s the biennial ding dong between England and Australia taking place at the moment.
Given the fiendish time difference between the old sporting enemies, the latest I’ve managed is 2am before staggering bleary eyed to bed, but our boys – that’s the English in case you’re in Adelaide – are doing pretty well after being soundly thrashed 5-0 last time down under.
We’ve got a pretty explosive batsman on our side – step forward Kevin Pietersen – who bashed the ball about last week – and he just happens to have a great – Aussie – mate of his – the one and only Shane Warne – who has probably enjoyed a similar if not more amount of tabloid headlines as KP.
England are in Melbourne this week ahead of a touring game before the next Ashes battle in Perth and Warnie – true to form and wanting to show off his Victoria hometown – apparently offered to arrange a Lamborghini for his pal to play with.
Quite how anyone secures a Lambo just like that is anyone’s guess, but Warnie’s pretty much close to Royalty when it comes to Oz, so hey presto, a shiny yellow one was found.
Warnie plus KP is just about guaranteed to deliver explosives. And what do you know? Shortly after Kevin took the wheel of the Lamborghini, he got a speeding ticket and some great headlines to bolster his swashbuckling image even further.
Travoltaâ€s wife â€not in labourâ€, says rep
A representative for actor John Travolta has dismissed reports that actor rushed home from Australia because his pregnant wife Kelly Preston went into labor. “This story is 100 per cent false,” Perth Now quoted the actor’s spokesperson as telling People magazine Sunday. “She”s not in labour. John is en-route back to the US as was [...]
John Travolta Jets Home As Kelly Preston Goes Into Labor
John Travolta is making a mad dash back to the Sunny State of Florida after a shortlived trip Australia. It’s the actor’s last ditch effort to be with pregnant wife Kelly Preston, 47, who went into labor with the couple’s third child on Saturday — three weeks ahead of schedule! John had been Down Under [...]
Stamford Land’s 1H net profit after tax soars to $44.3m on favourable forex rate
Stamford Land Corporation, the operator of luxury hotels and developer of residential and commercial properties, says profit after tax increased 329.8% to $44.3 million for the half year ended 30 September 2010 (1HFY2011) from $10.3 million in 1HFY2010.
This was due to the favourable exchange rate for FY 2011 and fair value gains on investment properties. Hotels in Australia continue to perform strongly, with operating results for 2HFY2011 expected to be better than 1HFY2011.
Revenue fell slightly to $110.7 million in 1H11 from $111.0 million in 1H10.
NTA per share increased to $0.53 due to stronger A$ and NZ$ for investments in hotels and properties, with hotels conservatively valued at historical cost less depreciation.
A fair value gain of $47.3 million was recognised for the completion of Dynons Plaza in Perth.

ComfortDelgro Corp rated buy by Kim Eng Research
Kim Eng Research in a July 20 research report says: “ComfortDelgro is bidding to enter the Australian taxi market via an A$38.8 million acquisition of Swan Taxis, the largest taxi operator in Perth, Western Australia.
ComfortDelgro flat; Muted reception to Aussie buy
ComfortDelgro’s (C52.SG) expansion in Australia, via A$38.8 million ($46.8 million) acquisition of Swan Taxis, generating little interest among investors, according to Dow Jones.
Stock flat at $1.50 in thin trade. Public transport operator seeking to buy Swan Taxis, which has biggest cab market share in Perth, in bid to enlarge footprint in Australia, where it’s already one of largest private bus companies in New South Wales, Victoria.
