Minister: Budget revenue to exceed plans

Serbian Finance Minister Diana Dragutinović said Friday that she expected the total budget revenue in 2011 to exceed earlier forecasts by about RSD 10bn.

“Based on these two months – December of last and January of this year – I can accurately predict the revenue in 2011,” she said, adding that she was almost certain it would be “at least RSD 10bn higher than planned.”

Artradis hedge fund to shut; Diggle plans new firm

Artradis Fund Management, whose hedge funds made US$2.7 billion ($3.5 billion) in profits for investors as markets see-sawed in 2007 and 2008, is closing down after it lost money from wagers on price swings in the last two years.

The Singapore-based manager plans to give investors in Artradis AB2 Fund their money by Feb. 28, said co-founder Stephen Diggle. The firm hopes to return money in its Artradis Barracuda Fund by the same date as it awaits investors’ vote to wind up the fund, he said in an interview today. The volatility funds are “substantially in cash,” he said.

Cosco says no plans, talks for asset injection

Cosco Corporation (Singapore) says it has not received any proposal nor is it currently in any discussions with any party regarding a proposed asset injection.

The announcement was made in response to recent research reports which raised the possibility of a restructuring effort by parent company Cosco Group that would see it inject its 19% interest in Cosco Shipyard Group and its 100% stake in Cosco Shipbuilding Industry Company, which owns two shipbuilding yards in Nantong and Dalian, into the company.

Singaore’s Swiss-Asia plans 500m euro China power plant fund

Singapore’s Swiss-Asia Financial Services plans to raise 500 million euros ($861.6 million) for a private equity fund that will invest in combined heat and power plants in China, riding on the country’s efforts to promote clean energy.

The China District Energy Fund, which has gathered US$115 million ($147.3 million) in commitments, will invest in electricity plants that also generate and sell heat to end-users, providing a second source of revenue.

Hutchison plans to sell shares in China ports unit: Update 3

Li Ka-Shing’s Hutchison Whampoa, the world’s biggest container-terminal operator, will sell deep-water port holdings in Hong Kong and southern China, hubs of record global trade, in what may be Singapore’s largest-ever initial public offering.

The company will retain a stake of about 25% in the trust that will own terminals in Hong Kong and neighboring Guangdong province, port operations along the Pearl River and shipping-support businesses, it said in a statement today.

China plans high-speed rail to Singapore, Daily says

China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region will make building a high-speed rail link from its main city of Nanning to connect to a planned Singapore-bound line its main task in the next five years, the China Daily said.

The construction of the rail link to Pingxiang, a city near China’s border with Vietnam, will start in the second half of this year, the paper said citing the local development and reform commission.

Hutchison port unit plans $7.7b Singapore listing: Update

Hutchison Whampoa (0013.HK) plans to spin off a port unit and raise US$6 billion ($7.7 billion) via a listing in Singapore, the biggest ever in the city-state, to expand its port facilities and infrastructure, IFR and the firm said on
Tuesday.

Hutchison, owned by tycoon Li Ka-shing, is proposing to spin off Hutchison Port Holdings Trust in a separate listing in Singapore, it said in a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange.

Singapore plans more housing curbs as prices rise to record

Singapore will raise down payment requirements for second mortgages and extend the period homeowners must hold properties to avoid a sales tax as it steps up efforts to curb speculation after prices rose to a record.

Individuals with more than one mortgage can only borrow up to 60% of a property’s value, down from 70%, the government said in a statement yesterday. On loans to entities other than individuals it will be reduced to 50% from 60%. Sellers will now have to pay a stamp duty for all homes and land sold within four years of purchase, from three years.

Virgin Mobile will reportedly stop offering its $40 unlimited 3G Broadband2Go data plan. With AT&T having cut off the data hogs and Verizon wavering, Sprint now stands alone. – Virgin Mobile is the latest carrier to cancel its unlimited
wireless data plan.

Perennial Real Estate, a firm set up by former CapitaLand (CATL.SI) retail chief Pua Seck Guan, has hired Goldman Sachs (GS.N), DBS (DBSM.SI) and Standard Chartered (STAN.L) to help it raise as much as $1 billion in a property trust IPO, sources with knowledge of the deal said on Wednesday.

Perennial Real Estate, a property management firm managed by former CapitaLand (CATL.SI) retail chief Pua Seck Guan, has hired Goldman Sachs (GS.N), DBS (DBSM.SI) and Standard Chartered (STAN.L) to advise on a $1 billion initial public offering, sources with knowledge of the deal said.
 
Perennial intends to list a property trust in Singapore comprising mostly shopping malls in China, said the sources, who declined to be named because the matter has not been made public.
 
Perennial declined comment and the banks either declined comment or could not be reached.
