Union members take over arms plant offices

Members of the Nezavisnost workers union took over the headquarters of Zastava Arms, a weapons manufacturer in Kragujevac, central Serbia. This came because the authorities are refusing to recognize the association as the representative of the workers, the protesters said.

Boustead units secure $25m deal to design, build demineralisation plant for Tuas Power

Boustead Singapore says wholly-owned subsidiary, Boustead Salcon Water Solutions, the water and wastewater engineering specialist, has won a $25 million contract to design, engineer and construct a demineralisation plant at the Tembusu multi-utilities complex owned by Tuas Power.

Boustead Salcon will partner Boustead Projects, the specialist in industrial real-estate solutions to deliver the Demin plant.

Singaore’s Swiss-Asia plans 500m euro China power plant fund

Singapore’s Swiss-Asia Financial Services plans to raise 500 million euros ($861.6 million) for a private equity fund that will invest in combined heat and power plants in China, riding on the country’s efforts to promote clean energy.

The China District Energy Fund, which has gathered US$115 million ($147.3 million) in commitments, will invest in electricity plants that also generate and sell heat to end-users, providing a second source of revenue.

12-date North American tour. Beginning April 8 in Louisville, KY, this will be the third leg of touring on these
shores in support of the triumphant release of his latest album, Band of Joy. The touring band is the same
that made the record and that is currently touring the States: Patty Griffin, vocals; Darrell Scott,
multi-nstrumentalist/vocals; Byron House, bass/vocals; Marco Giovino, drums and

ecoWise Holdings posts full-year net loss of $1.3m

Mainboard-listed ecoWise Holdings says it registered a loss attributable to equity holders of $1.3 million in FY2010 mainly due to asset disposal in Wuhan related to the conversion of a coal-fired co-generation plant to a biomass co-generation plant, lower used copper slag-related activities and new business/project development costs. Revenue grew by 19.8% year-on-year to $37.59 million, mainly due to acquisition of Malaysia subsidiaries in the business of tyre retreading and rubber compound manufacturing in July 2010.

Fire put out at central Serbia arms plant

There were several explosions during the night at the arms-manufacturing section of the Sloboda factory in Čačak, but the fire at the grounds has been put out. MUP Emergency Situations Sector chief Predrag Marić confirmed that the last strong blast was heard at around 05:30 CET.

Serbia’s nuclear plant plans “unrealistic”

Environment Minister Oliver Dulić says that Serbia’s participation in the construction of the Belene nuclear power plant is “unrealistic at this moment”. Dulić also said that there had been “more debate in the media than in the government” about this issue.

R H Energy awarded $11.4m in contracts to design plant upgrades

Mainboard-listed R H Energy says it has won contracts worth US$8.7 million ($11.4 million), to provide process engineering design, technical services and commissioning for the upgrading of a caprolactum plant with an annual production capacity of 200,000 tonnes and a special epoxy plant with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tonnes for the Sinopec group companies.

OpenBSD Founder: NetSec Probably Contracted to Plant Backdoors

OpenBSD founder Theo de Raadt wrote that a firm was probably contracted to put backdoors in OpenBSD project code, but it is unlikely the flaws made it very far if they existed. – The founder of the OpenBSD project said he believes a firm was

Hu An Cable acquires land to build $17.5m copper rod plant

Mainboard-listed Hu An Cable Holdings, the China-based wire and cable manufacturer, says it recently acquired 61,335 square metres of land in Jiangsu Province for RMB21.2 million ($4.18 million) to build its RMB88.9 million copper rod plant.

The land is located adjacent to the group’s existing production facilities, with a tenure of 50 years. Once completed, the plant will triple its annual production capacity of copper rods from 21,000 tonnes to 75,000 tonnes by September 2011.

XinRen up on plans for 4th smelting plant

Shares of XinRen Aluminum <XIRN.SI>, a Singapore-listed Chinese aluminium producer, rose as much as 3% on Tuesday after a Reuters report that it was looking to build or acquire a fourth smelting plant.

XinRen was up 2% at $0.505 on a volume of 1.4 million shares at 14:25 p.m. It had earlier reached an intraday high of $0.51.

XinRen Aluminum exploring 4th smelting plant

XinRen Aluminum, a Singapore-listed aluminium producer, is looking to build or acquire a fourth smelting plant in China, Southeast Asia or Saudi Arabia, company officials said.

The China-based firm currently has two smelting plants, which produce primary aluminium such as ingots and plates, with a total production capacity of 275,000 tonnes per year.
