Daily: PM to evaluate ministers’ work

The president has given the green light to the PM to assess ministers’ work if ruling coalition leaders do not reach an agreement on the government reshuffle.

According to daily Danas, it is less likely that the ruling coalition leaders will agree on the government reshuffle and the Democratic Party (DS) has therefore come up with a new proposal.

PM: Serbia EU candidate by end of 2011

PM: Teachers’ requests unrealistic

Serbian PM Mirko Cvetković says teachers’ demands are unrealistic and that the government will not make concessions that would undermine economic stability.

He said that the demands of the teachers on strike for an increase of their earnings by 24 percent were unrealistic and could cause a chain reaction of demands for salary and pension increases that would lead to inflation and weaken the domestic currency.

PM to submit answers to questionnaire on Monday

Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković will hand the answers to the European Commission (EC) questionnaire to EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule on Monday.

The EC is going to prepare an opinion on Serbia’s request for European Union membership based on the answers to the questionnaire.

PM “expects detailed investigation”

PM Mirko Cvetković says he expects a detailed investigation to follow the adoption of the PACE resolution on the allegations of organ trafficking in Kosovo. Cvetković told Tanjug that the resolution supports the Serbian government view that war crimes were committed by all sides during the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, but added that Belgrade did not wish to turn the issue into a political matter.

Irish PM quits as party leader

Ireland’s PM Brian Cowen announced Saturday he was stepping down as head of his Fianna Fail party but would remain as the PM ahead of elections in March.

“Taking everything into account, and having discussed the matter with my family, I have decided on my own counsel to step down as uachtarain [president] of Fianna Fail and leader of Fianna Fail,” Cowen told reporters in Dublin.

Tunisian PM pledges to quit politics

Tunisia’s PM Mohamed Ghannouchi has promised to leave politics after elections being planned in the wake of President Zine al-Abedine Ben Ali’s fall last week.

In a TV interview, the long-serving PM said he would quit “in the shortest possible timeframe”.

Montenegrin PM on private visit

Montenegro’s new Prime Minister Igor LukÅ¡ić had talks with the president and prime minister of Serbia Boris Tadić and Mirko Cvetković. This took place during his private visit to Belgrade on Thursday, Beta news agency reported.
