Pair of Wilson Cell Phone Boosters Solve Poor iPhone Reception on ATandT

During CTIA, eWEEK Labs invited Wilson Electronics to our San Francisco offices to see if it could solve the iPhone and AT&T conundrum: how to deliver a reliable cell phone connection to a class A building in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Wilson provided a pair cell phone boosters: the $140 Sleek Cell Phone Signal Booster, designed for use in a car; and the $300 SignalBoost DT Desktop, which serves multiple cell phones in a small home or office. The Sleek unit delivered about 10 dB signal boost to a single iPhone, making it possible to place a call& a 100 percent success rate, compared with the 30 percent success rate without the boost. But the antenna has to be close to the outdoors or a window, or the Sleek doesn’t seem to help much. The DT Desktop, on the other hand, boosts signal up to 50 db to several phones within 10 to 25 feet of the desktop antenna. Just beware of the oscillation from a misaligned unit.
