Tadić: 2011 won’t be much better

President Boris Tadić said during his meeting with Republic of Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik that economic situation would not be much better in 2011.

The two presidents had a regular meeting on Wednesday, it was announced.

SPS leader: DS wants two-party system

Ivica Dačić said the ruling Democrats (DS) and the opposition SNS have a common goal of creating a two-party system in Serbia. The leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and Serbia’s first deputy PM said his ruling coalition partners the Democratic Party, led by the country’s president Boris Tadić, will not have the Socialists’ help in achieving this.

Anti-Corruption Council writes to president

The Anti-Corruption Council sent on Tuesday a letter to Serbian President Boris Tadić specifying cases of corruption faced by foreign investors in Serbia.
The council asked for a meeting with Tadić to discuss the problem.

Ambassadors’ Conference under way in Belgrade

President on govt. reshuffle, Kosovo talks

President Boris Tadić says “personnel changes” are possible in the Serbian government led by Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković. In an interview for the Belgrade-based daily Blic he said it was “most important to achieve the dynamic of all work started”, and that there were “more important issues” than changes in the current cabinet.

Tadić talks date of Serbia’s EU accession

President Boris Tadić said on Tuesday in Belgrade that Serbia would enter the European Union between 2016 and 2020. At a conference on the country’s less developed regions, he said that 2016 would be “the best possible result, a record to break all records, with respect to other countries, while 2020 would be a unremarkable result.”

President denies intention to sack FM

President Boris Tadić has today rejected media reports that Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić would be dismissed.
He also said Ivica Dačić will not be Serbia’s new prime minister, as speculated on Monday.

Democrats shoot down PM speculation

Ruling Democratic Party (DS) spokesperson Jelena Trivan dismissed on Monday speculation that Serbia’s Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković would step down. “Both the Democratic Party and President (Boris) Tadić are satisfied with the work and results shown by Prime Minister Cvetković, who is doing his job conscientiously and responsibly in these difficult times, and he has our absolute support in this,” Trivan told Tanjug.

The Anti-Corruption Council has called on President Boris Tadić to exercise his authority and ask the government which Telekom Srbija assets are being sold.
The state-owned telecommunications company will be sold in a tender.

Cypriot foreign minister visits Belgrade

Government, IMF agree on review

The Serbian government and the IMF have reached agreement on the 6th review of the current stand-by arrangement, worth a total of EUR 2.9bn. The agreement on the latest review is expected to be approved during a government session in Belgrade this Thursday, and the news was also confirmed by President Boris Tadić, who is visiting Croatia.

President visits earthquake town

In downtown Belgrade, Serbian police (MUP) officers clashed with 6,000 protesters rallying against the Belgrade Pride gay parade. Serbian President Boris Tadić reacted to the violence by saying that “the state is ready to get tough with the hooligans”.
