Montenegro to submit questionnaire to EC

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Đukanović will submit Montenegro’s answers to the European Commission’s questionnaire on December 9 in Brussels. Montenegrin European Integration Minister Gordana Đurović said that more intensive talks with the EC will begin in January, adding that this dialogue will last several months.

Montenegro optimistic of NATO acceptance

After meeting with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Đukanović said that he was optimistic regarding membership. However, Podgorica has not received a clear signal from Rasmussen regarding Montenegro’s demand to be accepted into the Alliance.

Ex-Đukanović ally “ready to testify”

Ratko Knežević, described as a Montenegrin businessman, says he is ready to testify in the cigarette smuggling case against Stanko Subotić, aka Cane. The former advisor of Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Đukanović told B92 TV that he has talked with the Serbian special prosecutor via video link from Zagreb about the so-called Tobacco Mafia, that worked on the territory of the former Yugoslavia.

Montenegrin PM doesn’t want “Kosovo shadow”

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Đukanović said that Montenegro and Serbia “need to step out of the shadow of Kosovo”. “Differing relations towards Kosovo hinder our relations today. We understand Serbia and we are sorry about the problem it finds itself in because of this. And we believe that we are interpreting it rightly that this kind of epilogue was certain to be the outcome of the Kosovo problem,” Đukanović told Belgrade daily Politika.

Opposition leader levels grave accusations at PM

Nebojša Medojević, of the leaders of opposition in Montenegro, has repeated his accusations against the Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Đukanović.

Medojević, who has announced that the opposition in that country, including his Movement for Change, would unite, told B92 that there was evidence that Đukanović in 2005 called on his immunity in order to avoid a cigarette smuggling and money laundering investigation launched by the Italian Ministry Of Justice.

Former chief of the Montenegrin trade mission in Washington, Ratko Knežević, said that he can prove his allegations regarding cigarette smuggling activities. “My publicly stated claims in the media will once again be confirmed officials, and the material evidence which I have will be submitted,” Knežević said regarding the statements he gave to the media earlier about Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Đukanović’s involvement in cigarette smuggling.

Rehn hands Đukanović EC questionnaire

European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn has handed a European Commission questionnaire to Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Đukanović. This is a mechanism through which the European Commission will evaluate Montenegro’s readiness to receive EU candidate status.
