Eucon Holding swings back to profitability with 3Q net profit of $1.5m

Mainboard-listed Eucon Holding, the PCB laser driller in Taiwan, says it posted a net profit of $1.5 million for the third quarter ended 30 September 2010 (3Q10) compared to a net loss of $0.2 million for 3Q09.

The group reported revenue of $33.9 million in 3Q10, an increase of 40% from $24.2 million from the corresponding period in 2009 (3Q09), driven by increase in revenues from all services.

PCB revenue improved 37% to $24.2 million. Mechanical drilling and routing services improved 24% to $4.2 million while laser drilling services improved 77% to $5.5 million.

Sunright returns to profitability for full year

Sunright Limited says it closed the financial year ended 31 July 2010 (FY2010) with a net profit of $6.2 million, as compared to a net loss of S$7.0 million in the last financial year (FY2009).

Group turnover increased by 52% to $124.2 million from $81.6 million last year. Revenue also jumped by 73% to $74.1 million this year, from $42.8 million last year.

How long can corporate America’s profit rebound continue?

AMERICANS used to love to hear tales of success in business. One of the many oddities of the current joyless economic recovery is that this traditional enthusiasm is strikingly lacking. Corporate America has bounced back impressively. The quarterly results season that is now nearly over has revealed that profits are back within a whisker of the all-time highs achieved before the downturn in late 2008. By some calculations, the rate of recovery of profits from their trough is the strongest since the end of the Great Depression.

Yet nobody seems pleased. Not investors, who have failed to push up share prices in the way this sort of earnings growth would have caused them to do at this stage of previous economic cycles. Certainly not politicians, who complain that firms are “hoarding” cash and creating hardly any new jobs. As Robert Reich, an economist at Berkeley and former labour secretary under Bill Clinton, puts it: “Bottom line: higher corporate profits no longer lead to higher employment. We’re witnessing a great decoupling of company profits from jobs.” …

HTL International swings back to profitability with net profit of $48.3m

HTL International Holdings, one of the world’s leading leather tanners and sofa manufacturers, says the group has returned to full-year profitability with net profit of $48.3 million compared to a net loss of $20.3 million the year before.

Turnover in Q4 2009 rebounded strongly to $170.4 million, its first increase after four consecutive quarters of decline. The increase was driven by three markets, namely Europe, North America, and Australia and New Zealand.

GMG Global back to profitability in 4Q with earnings of $5m

GMG Global, the planter, tapper, processor and exporter of natural rubber, says group turnover remained stable at $61.1 million for the three months ended 31 December 2009 (4Q2009).

For the first nine months of FY2009, GMG Global was affected by lower rubber prices and only returned to profitability in 4Q as rubber prices gradually recovered from their lows. Thus, net profit attributable to equity holders for 4Q was $5 million.

SIA rise on return to profitability, brighter outlook

Singapore Airlines, the world’s second-largest carrier by market value, rose as much as 3.2% after reporting its first net income in three quarters, reported Bloomberg.

The airline gained as much as 44 cents to S$14.1, and traded at $14.02 as of 9:04 a.m. in Singapore. Before today, the stock had lost 8.6% this year. The earnings were released after the stock market closed for trading last evening.
