Ivica DaÄić said this morning that a protocol signed by the Serbian police and the EU mission in Kosovo is “exclusively of a police and technical nature”. Speaking in Leskovac, in southern Serbia, where he presented the millionth biometric passport issued by his ministry, the interior minister said that the protocol signed with EULEX does not concern “any kind of customs”, nor “any other issues” that “politicians have been mentioning these days”.

U.S., EU welcome protocol signing
The United States and the EU have welcomed the signing of a police cooperation protocol between MUP and EULEX. EU representative in Kosovo Pieter Feith was quoted as saying this morning that he is convinced the agreement does not violate “Kosovo’s sovereignty” and that the Ahtisaari package allows the EU mission to sign such documents.

The EU mission in Kosovo, EULEX, has signed a protocol on cooperation with the Serbian police (MUP). This was confirmed on Friday for B92 by EULEX press office chief Christoph Lamfalussy in Priština.
K. Albanians in protocol consultations
Kosovo Albanian leaders have continued consultations with international representatives over an announced MUP-EULEX cooperation protocol. This is according to an article in today’s Albanian language daily Koha Ditore, that also said International Civilian Representative Pieter Feith met on Friday with Kosovo Albanian President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, while another meeting has been scheduled for Monday.
“EULEX has right to sign protocol”
International representatives in Kosovo Yves de Kermabon and Pieter Feith claim that EULEX has the right to sign a protocol with Serbia’s police. This is according to a report in Albanian language daily Koha Ditore in PriÅ¡tina this Saturday, that also says this right derives from “Kosovo’s constitution”.
Bogdanović: Protocol is inevitable
Serbian Kosovo Minister Goran Bogdanović said that the agreement with EULEX will be signed despite Priština’s refusal to accept it. He said that the refusal of Kosovo officials to accept the agreement for cooperation between EULEX and the Serbian Interior Ministry is proof that Priština is not constructive and is a source of instability in the region.

Serbia, German state sign protocol
Deputy PM Božidar Äelić on Friday in Belgrade signed a cooperation protocol with Baden-Wurttemberg officials. The protocol, concerning security, fight against organized crime and corruption, EU Danube strategy, economy, education, tourism, culture and science, was signed by Äelić and the German federal state’s Minister of State Ministry and Federal and European Affairs Wolfgang Reinhart.
