Singapore’s Straits Times Index advanced 1.1% to 2,850.44 as of 9:32 a.m. Twenty-nine stocks on the 30-member gauge increased. Shares on the measure trade at 14.1 times estimated earnings, compared with about 17.5 times at the beginning of the year, according to Bloomberg data. The following shares were among the most active in the market.

Chip Eng Seng Corp. (CHIP SP) gained 1.5% to 34 cents. The homebuilder said its CEL Development Pte unit and Choicehomes Investments Pte submitted the top bid of $223.7 million at a government auction for a residential site in the northeastern part of the city-state.

SocGen hires Barclays exec as SE Asia pte bank head

Societe Generale’s private bank said today it has hired Benedikt Maissen from Barclays to be its managing director and head of Asean region. Maissen, 50, was previously head of the Southeast Asia, Europe and Japan desks at Barclays Wealth in Singapore. He will report to SocGen Private banking’s CEO for Singapore and South Asia Pierre Baer.

Tiong Woon seals deals with Shell for 3 projects to provide mobile cranes and maintenance works

Mainboard-listed Tiong Woon Corporation Holding, the integrated services provider for the Oil & Gas and Petrochemicals sectors and heavy lift specialist, says today its wholly-owned subsidiary, Tiong Woon Crane Pte Ltd, has been awarded two contracts by Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd (SEPL) and Shell Chemicals Seraya (Pte) Ltd (SCSL) to provide mobile cranes and lifting services to the mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) plant and the Seraya plant on Jurong Island respectively.

Meanwhile, Tiong Woon Crane Pte Ltd was also awarded another contract by SEPL to provide safe and proper lifting and transport services for the Shell Bukom plant.
For confidentiality reasons, Tiong Woon says it is unable to disclose the contract amounts.

Temasek still ‘fairly comfortable’ in financial sector, Ho says

Temasek may create one more group of stakeholders

Temasek Holdings Pte, the Singapore state-owned investment company, may invite the public to co-invest, Chief Executive Officer Ho Ching said in a speech in Singapore today.

It may also seek “sophisticated investors” in five to eight years and retail investors in the next eight to 10 years, she said.

“Over the longer term, we are exploring the feasibility of creating one more group of stakeholders,” she said. “We can do this by inviting the public to co-invest with Temasek.”

Temasek says asset value fell by more than $40b by March

Temasek Holdings Pte, Singapore’s state-run investment company, said asset values fell by more than $40 billion by March.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer Ho Ching said it’s “unfortunate” that Charles ‘Chip’ Goodyear didn’t take the top job.

The succession review continues for her replacement, she added.
