Singapore to defer bus, train fare review till Q4: report

Singapore will defer its mid-year review of bus and subway train fares till the fourth quarter of the year, delaying what will likely have resulted in higher cost of public transport, the Straits Times newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Singapore’s public transport fare review mechanism takes into account inflation and average wage changes in the preceding year, meaning operators SMRT (SMRT.SI) and ComfortDelgro (CMDG.SI) would have gotten the greenlight to raise fares at the next review.

Wing Tai returns to black in Q4 with net profit of $69m

Property developer Wing Tai Holdings reported a net profit of $68.92 million for the fourth quarter ended June 30, 2010 (4Q2010). This reverses the net loss of $53.88 million it made in 4Q2009.

Revenue for the three months was up 17% y-o-y to $222.35 million.

SGX opens 0.52% up after Q4 results

Shares of Singapore Exchange (SGXL.SI), Asia’s second-largest bourse by market capitalisation, opened 0.52% higher on Monday after it announced it posted a 13% fall in fourth quarter net profit.

At around 9:04 a.m., SGX shares were traded at $7.69, up 0.39%, with over 95,000 shares changing hands.

SGX earned $79.6 million in the three months ended June 30, down from $91.2 million a year earlier, but said prospects were good. The profit was in line with the median estimate of $80 million of five brokers surveyed by Reuters.

Singapore’s central bank says inflation could hit 4% in Q4

Singapore could face more inflationary pressure due to higher global commodity prices and transport costs with annual inflation hitting as high as 4% in the fourth quarter, the central bank said on Wednesday.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore’s latest decision to tighten policy is “appropriate and timely” given the strong economic recovery and improving global environment, it said in its twice-yearly macroeconomic report.
