Tuan Sing records $21m in net profit for 1Q
Tuan Sing Holdings posted a net profit attributable to shareholders of $20.9 million for the first quarter 2010 from $0.7 million the same period last year.
Revenue stood to $105.7 million. Total comprehensive income attributable to shareholders was $24.2 million, as compared to $7.4 million the same quarter last year.
Earnings per share rose to 1.8 cents for the quarter and net assets value per share advanced to 45.4 cents as at 31 March 2010.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 2.2% in the three months ended March from a revised 2.3% the previous quarter, the Ministry of Manpower said today. The median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey of six economists was for a jobless rate of 2.1%. The city state added an estimated 34,000 new jobs last quarter.

MCL Land has posted net profit of US$48.7 million ($66.8 million) for the quarter ended March 31, 2010, up from US$1.4 million net profit in the same quarter last year.

Pacific Shipping Trust says it will distribute 0.793 US cents per unit to unitholders for the first quarter ended 31 March, 2010 (Q1 FY2010), representing a tax-free annualised yield of 10.8%.

Map Tech returns to black with net profit of US$3m in 1Q
Map Technology Holdings, the component manufacturer for the hard disc drive and biomedical industries, is pleased to announce its return to profitability with a net profit of US$3 million ($4.1 million) for the first quarter ended 31 March 2010 (1Q2010), thanks to the ongoing recovery of the global HDD market.
Revenue for the quarter grew 33% from US$31.7 million to US$42.2 million in 1Q2010, as the group saw sales improve across all its business divisions, except for the die-cut components division which fell US$0.15 million to US$1.1 million.
AMD Sees Profit for Second Straight Quarter in Q1
Chip maker Advanced Micro Devices reports it generated $257 million in profit and $1.57 billion in revenue in the first quarter, making it AMD’s second consecutive quarter of profit after 12 losing quarters. CEO Dirk Meyer attributes the success to AMD’s strong product line and execution.

PM Lee sees ‘good’ growth after record first quarter: Bloomberg
Singapore is looking forward to “good” growth this year after the island-state’s economy expanded in the first quarter at the fastest pace since at least 1975, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said.
“I am happy with the very strong first-quarter growth. It reflects a rebound from the downturn last year, which is broad- based and robust,” Lee said in an e-mailed response to questions from Bloomberg News late yesterday. “Singapore is looking forward to good growth in 2010.”
Singapore 1Q GDP advance estimate up 32.1% annualised
Singapore’s economy grew at a much faster-than-expected pace in the first quarter due to a surge in manufacturing output in the period.
The Singapore government has subsequently revised its GDP growth expectations for 2010 upward in view on the significant growth in the first quarter.
Gross domestic product for the three months to March 31 on a seasonally adjusted and annualised basis increased 32.1%, compared with an unrevised 2.8% decrease in the fourth quarter, according to advance estimates released Wednesday by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
GDP soars 32% in first quarter
Singapore says its economy soared in the first three months of 2010 as manufacturing more than doubled, reported AP.
The Trade and Industry Ministry said today that gross domestic product grew an annualised, seasonally adjusted 32.1% in the first quarter, bouncing back from a 2.8% drop in the fourth quarter of 2009.
The ministry says the economy grew 13.1% in the first quarter from the same period a year ago. The ministry says it raised its 2010 GDP forecast to between 7% and 9%.
The central bank saystoday that it shifted its exchange rate policy from a 0% appreciation to a “modest and gradual” appreciation in a bid to dampen inflation pressure.

SPH reports 30% rise in 2Q net profit to $113m
Singapore Press Holdings has reported its results for the second quarter ending Feb 28 2010.
Against the corresponging quarter last year, SPH says recurring profit jumped 35.8% to $127.5 million, led by the strong performance of the Newspaper and Magazine segment.
The group’s investment income and share of net profit of associates and jointly-controlled entities were higher by $3.6 million and $4.6 million respectively.

Singapore’s private residential-property prices rose at a slower pace in the first quarter than the previous three months, suggesting recently introduced government measures have helped cool the sizzling market.
Private residential-property prices rose 5.1% in the first quarter, decelerating from the increase of 7.4% in the fourth quarter, according to flash estimates issued by the government today.
