Robbie Robertson Readies First Album in Over a Decade

On April 5, 2011, 429 Records will release How To Become Clairvoyant, Robbie Robertson‘s fifth solo
album and his first record in more than 10 years. Guitar virtuosos Eric Clapton (who co-wrote three tracks
with Robertson), Tom Morello and Robert Randolph guest on the album, which Robertson co-
produced with Marius de Vries. How To Become Clairvoyant also features Steve
Winwood
and Trent Reznor as well as vocalists Angela McCluskey, Rocco Deluca, Dana
Glover
and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes. Bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Ian
Thomas
lay down the groove throughout.

On his last two albums, Music for The Native Americans (1994) and Contact from the Underworld of
Redboy
(1998), Robertson explored his ancestry. Now, with How To Become Clairvoyant, he takes on
his rock heritage, delivering his first-ever song about leaving The Band, the evocative “This Is Where I Get

Intel Readies Android 2.2 for x86

Intel in summer 2010 will ship a version of Google’s Android 2.2 mobile OS, code-named Froyo, which will run on the x86 architecture, a move that will enable Intel to put its Atom processor in devices such as notebooks and smartphones that run Android. – Intel engineers are working to port the Google Android mobile operating
system to enable it to run with x86 processors.

Oracle Readies New Edition of Tuxedo Application Server

Oracle announces a new version of the Tuxedo application server that it acquired with the 2008 buyout of BEA Systems. The new edition, called Oracle Tuxedo 11g, will support the Python and Ruby development languages as well as the long-time mainstays of C/C++ and COBOL. The new Tuxedo, along with new mainframe re-hosting products such as Oracle Tuxedo Application Runtime for CICS and Batch 11g and Oracle Tuxedo Application Re-hosting Workbench 11g, is designed to allow data center managers to migrate existing IBM mainframe and database applications to large-scale grid and cloud computing platforms running the Oracle database.

Space Shuttle Endeavour Readies for ISS Docking

Endeavour’s payload includes the Tranquility node — the last U.S. portion of the International Space Station — which will provide additional room for crew members and many of the space station’s life support and environmental control systems. Attached to Tranquility mode will be a a cupola, which houses a robotic control station and has seven windows to provide a panoramic view of Earth, celestial objects and visiting spacecraft.

Intel Readies Six-Core ‘Westmere’ Server Chip

At the ISSCC show next week, Intel officials will talk about their upcoming 32-nm “Westmere” processors for servers and clients, including a six-core version for two-socket servers and high-end desktops. Intel is looking to refresh its entire server lineup, not only with Westmere processors but also with the upcoming Nehalem EX chip and the next-generation Itanium processor, called “Tukwila.” AMD and IBM also are getting ready to release new server products.
