Chip Shot: Intel’s Malcolm Harkins Receives RSA Award

At yesterday’s RSA Conference, Malcolm Harkins, CISO and GM, Intel Enterprise Capabilities Controls and Compliance, received the Excellence in the Field of Security Practices Award. In accepting the award, Harkins explained to other security professionals that the greatest vulnerability is “our underestimation or overestimation of risk.”

Biosensors receives CE Mark of approval for BioMatrix Flex

Biosensors International Group, the maker of drug-eluting stents, says it has received CE Mark of approval for a new version of its BioMatrix drug-eluting stent system, the BioMatrix Flex.

BioMatrix was originally launched in Europe in April 2008, where its unique combination of a Biosensors-developed abluminal biodegradable polymer and proprietary limus drug, Biolimus A9, rapidly proved successful.

Barnes and Noble’s Nook Receives Mixed Reviews

Barnes Noble’s Nook e-reader, supposedly experiencing high demand from consumers during the holiday season, received decidedly lackluster reviews from Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal and David Pogue of The New York Times. The influential reviewers, whose articles have the reputation of being able to make or break devices on the market, suggest that the Nook needs substantial tweaks to its software features and offerings if it wants to become a more robust competitor to Amazon.com’s Kindle. Barnes Noble is facing a lawsuit from IT startup Spring Design over the Nooks design, which the latter claims was copied from its Alex e-reader.

Govt. receives poor marks in survey

A new Gallup Balkan Monitor public opinion survey shows that as many as 44 pct of the Serbian citizens believe that the current government is performing badly. Only those polled in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia had worse opinion of their respective governments, European Fund for the Balkans Executive Director Hedvig Morvai-Horvat said during the presentation of the survey in Belgrade on Tuesday.
