Serbia, Montenegro in extradition deal

Montenegro and Serbia have reached an agreement on mutual extradition of citizens who have committed acts of organized crime and corruption. The deal also refers to money laundry and crimes against humanity and other acts under protection of international law.

Deutsche Telekom CEO and Macedonian affair

Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann might be more deeply involved in a bribery affair in Macedonia than initially thought, German magazine Der Spiegel writes. The magazine says that the state prosecution in Bonn has charged Deutsche Telekom with negotiating “some sort of a secret contract” with the Macedonian government.

Railway joint venture in Balkans

On 1 October at noon, the first train of the multi-national Balkan railway company Kargo 10 is scheduled to leave the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.
The protocol between Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia on the creation of the joint venture was signed on 9 September. A few days later Macedonia joined the project. Montenegro wants to follow suit, although the two non-founding partners will co-operate with, but not invest in, the company.

Journalists under siege over “meat affair”

The South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO) says it is alarmed at recent threats posed to two Croatian journalists. Sergej Trajković and Tomislav Kukec, who work for the Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List, in late August began publishing a series of articles, after a thorough investigation using various sources, describing alleged irregularities in the Croatian meat industry, said SEEMO.

Serbia, Montenegro start extradition talks

Serbian State Secretary for Justice Slobodan Homen has stated that Serbia and Montenegro started talks on an extradition agreement in Podgorica on Friday. In a statement for Tanjug, Homen expressed expectation that the agreement will be signed in mid-October.

Albanian president calls for recognitions

Albanian President Bamir Topi used the UN General Assembly session to call upon countries which did not recognize Kosovo to do so. At the same time he advocated a dialogue between Belgrade and PriÅ¡tina as, as he said, “two independent countries”.

EUFOR to be further reduced after election

The elections in Bosnia-Herzegovina scheduled for October 3 will also affect the peace mission EUFOR.
This is according to its commander Bernhard Bair.

Greek truck drivers to continue protests

The Greek parliament voted on Wednesday to liberalize the issuing of freight licenses, causing truck drivers to stage protests. They also clashed with police and blocked roads in Athens, said reports.

Bosnia: 60 arrested in organized crime raids

Some 60 people, including 22 active police officers, were arrested in a joint operation of the Bosnia-Herzegovina police forces. This was announced by the Prosecution of Bosnia-Herzegovina today in Sarajevo.

Croat leader strips 5 of military rank

Croatian President Ivo Josipović has stripped Branimir GlavaÅ¡, Mirko Norac, Vladimir Zagorac, Tihomir OreÅ¡ković and SiniÅ¡a Rimac of their senior military ranks. According to announcements, the Croatian president and commander in chief has made the decision in accordance with that country’s Constitution and law.

EP official on Sandžak and Montenegro

Jelko Kacin believes that tensions from Serbia’s southwestern Sandžak region will not spill over to neighboring Montenegro, said reports. According to his, the Slovenian politician evaluated that the situation regarding the status and minority rights of the Bosniaks in Montenegro is very much different from that in Serbia, “where the Bosniak minority is being discriminated”.

War criminal no-show in court

Convicted war criminal Branimir Glavaš today failed to appear in a Bosnian court that was to consider his sentence. The former mayor of the Croatian town of Osijek and Croatian politician, who was found guilty in that country of committing war crimes against ethnic Serbs, also holds Bosnian citizenship.

Slovenian troops “illegally in Afghanistan”

The union of the Slovenian military has sent a letter to the country’s President Danilo Turk regarding troop deployment in Afghanistan.
The letter informed Turk that the Slovenian government was “illegally sending troops” taking part in NATO operations.

Dodik asks for inter-entity line

Prime Minister of the RS Milorad Dodik said that he asked, at the government session, that a plan should be made to mark the inter-entity line in Bosnia. “Inter-entity boundary line is stipulated in the Annex 2 of the Dayton Peace Accords, but it has never been put into effect,” Dodik said.

South Stream could reach RS

Russia and RS have signed a document which considers the possibility that South Stream pipeline should reach the Serbian entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Moscow document was signed by Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik and Russian Minister of Energy Sergei Shamtko.

Poll shows strong support for Dodik

Milorad Dodik, who is a candidate for the post of the Republic of Srpska (RS) president, is a favorite to win the election, according to a new poll. Dodik is running on the Alliance of Independent Social-Democrats (SNSD) list.

EC on Bosnia, Albania visas

The European Commission (EC) has concluded that there are conditions to abolish the visa regime with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania. This could take place as of December, Germany’s media house Deutsche Welle reports.

Macedonian railways to join Cargo 10

Macedonia Railways will join Cargo 10, a joint company of the Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian state railway companies. This new addition to the joint project was decided at a meeting of the representatives of the Cargo 10 alliance in Zagreb, Croatian Railways (HZZ) stated.

“Bosnia can’t recognize Kosovo”

Serb member of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency Nebojša Radmanović stated that Bosnia has not way of recognizing Kosovo’s independence.
“There is no possibility of Bosnia-Herzegovina recognizing the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo,“ he said.

EU, Montenegro sign agreement

Montenegro and the EU have signed an agreement on security procedures for the exchange and protection of classified information.

It has been jointly concluded that the signing of the agreement is just one more confirmation of high-quality cooperation and mutual trust between Montenegro and the EU.
