Experience Hendrix Tour 2010

EXPERIENCE HENDRIX TOUR LAUNCHES IN MARCH, 2010
ALL STAR LINEUP INCLUDES JOE SATRIANI, LIVING COLOUR, DAVID HIDALGO, MANY MORE

Experience Hendrix, the fourth edition of the biennial concert tour that features an all star lineup of music greats paying homage to the music and legacy of Jimi Hendrix gets underway in early March of next year with special performances across the country.

Featured artists who will be performing music written and inspired by Hendrix include some of the best known and most respected artists in contemporary rock and blues, including Joe Satriani, Jonny Lang, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Brad Whitford (Aerosmith), Doyle Bramhall II, Ernie Isley, Living Colour, Chris Layton (Double Trouble), along with bassist Billy Cox.

Cox, who first befriended Hendrix when the two were in the 101st Airborne Division of U.S. Army, played in both the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys and performed with Hendrix at such landmark festivals as Woodstock and the Isle of Wight. Cox commented, “It’s a thrill for me to play Jimi’s music for audiences now as it was in the 1960s. The Experience Hendrix tours have shown how timeless this music really is.” Joe Satriani remarked, “I finally get to pay tribute to my hero the right way, onstage with an amazing, once in a lifetime, lineup of musicians!”

Sacred Steel, featuring Robert Randolph, Susan Tedeschi, and David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos are also performing on selected Experience Tour dates.

Various combinations of these music greats will be performing Jimi’s signature songs, including “Purple Haze,” “Voodoo Child (Slight Return),” “The Wind Cries Mary,” “Little Wing,” and “Red House.” As has been the case with previous Experience Hendrix tour incarnations, special guests are expected to sit in at many of the dates, making the concerts all that much more memorable for both new and veteran Hendrix fans. Past special guests have included Paul Rodgers, Buddy Guy, and Carlos Santana.

Shepherd, a veteran of several Experience Hendrix tours remarked, “Jimi Hendrix’s music has really inspired to push the limits of my own music. He didn’t observe any boundaries musically. He was an amazing player and a tremendous showman so I incorporated some of his showmanship in what I do.” As far as having been part of the Experience Hendrix touring phenomenon, Shepherd noted, “It touches you on the inside and gets you fired up.”

The Experience Hendrix Tour is presented by Experience Hendrix, LLC, the Hendrix family-owned company founded by James A. “Al” Hendrix, Jimi’s father, entrusted with preserving and protecting the legacy of Jimi Hendrix. Earlier this year, Sony Music Entertainment’s Legacy Division and Experience Hendrix entered into a worldwide catalog licensing venture to make all of Jimi’s extraordinary music, including classic albums, never before heard archive recordings, and filmed concerts available through all forms of media.

Launching on the west coast, the month-long tour will bring the troupe of players, each a headliner in his or her own right, to concert venues in major U.S. markets including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, St. Louis and Atlanta.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: New Album and Tour Announced

BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB TAKES FIFTH STUDIO ALBUM INTO OWN HANDS
Beat The Devil’s Tattoo Due March 9, 2010 via Own Abstract Dragon/Vagrant Records

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is revving up to unleash their fifth studio album, Beat The Devil’s Tattoo, on March 9, 2010, signifying the band’s first full-length on their own Abstract Dragon, in partnership with Vagrant Records. This album welcomes exciting beginnings, including new drummer Leah Shapiro, as well as their new label, though the trio returned to the familiar setting of Philadelphia, PA to pen this record. They wrote and recorded it in the very studio that produced their widely acclaimed third LP, Howl, before returning to hometown L.A. to add the finishing touches.

The band’s accustomed globetrotting will recommence with an initial headline tour, kicking off February 26 in Sacramento and culminating at New York City’s Webster Hall on April 8. Pre-sale for all shows will start Wednesday, December 2, available here.

Known for their impassioned live performances, the band recently offered a two DVD, one CD set aptly titled, Live (Abstract Dragon/Vagrant), earlier this month. The DVDs feature more than two hours of concert footage captured from three sold out shows in Berlin, Dublin, and Glasgow, and chronicles the end of the band’s 2007 tour in support of Baby 81. Additionally, it includes intimate, behind-the-scenes footage, glimpses into the making of 2005′s Howl, and is rounded out with a bonus live album featuring 14 songs.

Earthquake-proof bridges: Beaten but not broken

Engineers hope to keep bridges working after earthquakes

THERE are few safe places to ride out an earthquake. Surprisingly, though, a recently constructed bridge is often one of them. Engineers have become good at designing bridges that are earthquake-resistant enough to preserve the lives of those caught crossing when a quake strikes. The problem is that the bridge is often unusable afterwards. That can hamper the activity of emergency crews as they move around after a quake.

Mehdi Saiidi of the University of Nevada, in Reno, thinks he may have found a way to keep earthquake-damaged bridges working. He proposes to make the parts most likely to fail out of a substance called shape-memory alloy, which can “remember” what it is supposed to look like even after it has been twisted drastically out of kilter. …

Widespread Panic: Fall Tour And Archival Release #4

Widespread Panic: Fall Tour Dates & Archive Release #4

Widespread Panic

Widespread Panic tour dates for November have just been released. This tour finds the band heading out West, the Midwest, and back down to the Southeast. Dates include three-night runs in Los Angeles and Oakland, CA, and Milwaukee, WI.

The band will also release Archive Release #4 – Club Soda, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, September 8, 1997. For this live offering Panic goes north of the border for a gem that not too many people were aware of at the time… or maybe even since. Having played some traditional arenas and stages in the 1990′s, the boys find themselves back where it all began… in a bar. Only this time, it’s in the second largest French-speaking city in the world. Certainly a world away from Athens, GA. From the opening notes of “Heroes” all the way through the four song encore, the crowd makes the boys feel right at home. Whether you were there or have heard it since, you haven’t heard it like this. WP Sound Engineer Chris Rabold has once again dialed in the multi-track mix that puts you right in front of the soundboard and captures the energy that creates this show.

So, take a trip out to LiveWidespreadPanic.com or Widespread Merchandise for the pre-order routine, hang tight until the official release date of 10/6/09 hits and then sit back, relax, and enjoy our road trip to Canada.

The Avett Brothers

North Carolina-based rock band, The Avett Brothers, are gearing up for the release of their highly anticipated American Recordings/Columbia Records debut, I and Love and You, which hits stores on Tuesday, September 29, 2009. I and Love and You was recorded in Malibu, California and produced by multi-Grammy Award winning producer, Rick Rubin. The thirteen songs that make up this new record defy pigeonholing and can best be described as an amalgam of rock, folk, pop and country. The band has spent years touring, recording, performing and perfecting this blend of music styles with their signature lyrics and vocals. I and Love and You will also be available at participating Starbucks company-operated locations in the U.S. and Canada and wherever music is sold.

In addition beginning Tuesday, September 22, 2009, NPR Music will host an Exclusive First Listen of I and Love and You on their website, www.npr.org/firstlisten, where fans will be able to get a sneak peak of the new album a week prior to release. NPR Music’s distinctive Exclusive First Listen series recently showcased new music from such innovators as Wilco, Moby, Bjork and Neko Case.
