Robert Plant Album/Tour with Patty Griffin, Darrell Scott & More

ROBERT PLANT AND THE BAND OF JOY TO TOUR U.S.A.

JULY SHOWS TO INCLUDE MATERIAL FROM NEW ROUNDER ALBUM

Robert Plant has confirmed a 12 city North American tour. Beginning in July, this first leg of shows, which will be followed by further dates in the fall, will preview material from a new album. Featuring a diverse group of musicians – Patty Griffin, vocals; Darrell Scott, multi-instrumentalist/vocals; Byron House, bass/vocals; Marco Giovino, drums and percussion/vocals; including co-producer Buddy Miller, guitar/vocals. The album is set for release on Rounder, late summer/early fall.

Kicking off in Memphis on July 13 (see full tour schedule below) the tour will feature Plant and the ‘Band of Joy’ – the same musicians who also appear and play on the album.

Says Plant: “It’s been a blast working on these new songs… and I’m enjoying such creativity and vitality. It’s been a remarkable change of direction for all of us and as a group we all seem to have developed a new groove.”

In recent weeks Plant has been in the studio working on the planned release, which will be his first since Raising Sand, the multi-platinum, six-time Grammy winning collaboration with fellow Rounder artist Alison Krauss. Krauss has most recently been recording with her longtime band Union Station, and will be touring with them this summer. The pair do not expect to announce a new album or tour in the coming year, though when asked about the collaboration, Plant says: “Oh yes, Alison and I get together quite often… and sometimes we dance.”

Chess Records Biopic Robert Randolph, Keb’ Mo’

OPENS APRIL 9 IN NEW YORK CITY

Who Do You Love is the new film about Leonard and Phil Chess, legendary founders of Chess Records. The film opens in theaters beginning April 9 in NYC and stars Robert Randolph (as Bo Diddley), Keb’ Mo’, Raheem DeVaughn, Ryan Shaw and Alessandro Nivola (as Leonard Chess). Who Do You Love features authentic musical performances (all of the music was recorded and performed by the artists themselves) and a score full of Chess hits including Muddy Waters’ “Stuff You Gotta Watch,” Etta James’ “At Last” and Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love.” The film presents an intimate look at the rise of the label and the strain it placed on Leonard Chess’ family.

He’s My Brother She’s My Sister :: 02.15 :: L.A.

For 45 minutes on a Monday night, He’s My Brother She’s My Sister, an indie quintet out of downtown L.A. – with a debut album coming soon – played a concise, confident set of ghost town-folk and blues with a vaudeville aesthetic. Sure, it’s not an original sound or look, but not many bands have a tap dancer (Lauren Brown) for additional percussion and a cello (Satya Bhabha) instead of a bass.

Stylish brother and sister vocalist combo Robert (guitar) and Rachel Kolar led the festivities and Rachel’s scratchy vocals truly shined. Flight of the Conchords‘ Jemaine Clement was in the audience of approximately 200 at the Bootleg Theater, which is basically a giant shed made out of plywood and cement in an otherwise dark City of Angels neighborhood.

Highlights included the haunting and swinging “Tales That I Tell,” the band’s closest thing to a hit, “I Was Born” – where the entire group, including drummer Felipe Ceballos, came center stage to join Robert and his banjo for a rootsy, familial sing-along – and “What Goes On,” a rousing Velvet Underground cover. There was no self-indulgence and yet, they seemed to be completely indulging themselves.

The set might have been tight but attitudes were loose. They donned Eyes Wide Shut orgy masks, just because they felt like it. No encore was planned, but when the audience demanded one, Robert turned to his bandmates and said, “We can’t disappoint them. Fuck that. Even if it sounds like shit.”

See them before your friends do.

Trey Anastasio Band, featuring the Classic TAB lineup of Trey (guitar and vocals), Russell Remington (tenor saxophone and flute), Jennifer Hartswick (trumpet and vocals), Russ Lawton (drums), Tony Markellis (bass) and Ray Paczkowski (keyboards) with new member Natalie Cressman (trombone and vocals), who replaced her father, Jeff Cressman, played a sold out show last night (2/16) at New York’s Terminal 5.

It was a longer than normal show with the first set clocking in around a whopping two hours and the second set going for about another 70 minutes. Trey played a number of new and older TAB songs in addition to some Phish favorites done acoustically, a cover of Dire Straits‘ “Sultans of Swing,” and a big version of Zeppelin‘s “Black Dog” to close the second set.
