Pano Logic Rolls Out Latest Desktop Virtualization Offering

A day after Citrix and VMware showed off new capabilities in their desktop virtualization products, Pano Logic is announcing Version 2.8 of its Pano System. Pano Logics desktop virtualization offering centralizes all the processing, memory and software on a central server, and leaves only a zero-client Pano Device on the employee desktop. Pano System 2.8 enhances scalability and management, and includes the ability for users to connect the Pano Device to two monitors.

Dell Rolls Out Precision T1500 Workstation for SMBs

Dell is launching its Precision T1500 workstation for SMBs and AutoCAD users. The Precision T1500 is powered by the latest Core i7 chips from Intel, and offers a choice of AMD or Nvidia graphics cards. The workstation also is certified by Autodesk to run the AutoCAD design software.

Intel Rolls Out Mobile ‘Clarksfield’ Chips, Promises ‘Arrandale’

At its Intel Developer Forum, the chip-making giant formally announces the family of quad-core mobile processors code-named Clarksfield, bringing the microarchitecture code-named Nehalem to high-end laptops. The new mobile Core i7 processors include Turbo Boost technology, multithreading capabilities and an integrated memory controller. SGI Rolls Out Octane III Personal Supercomputer

SGIs new Octane III personal supercomputer, which can support up to 80 processing cores and up to 960GB of memory, is the latest offering from the company designed to close the gap in HPC between the data center and desktop. Octane III follows SGIs release in August of the CloudRack X2 aimed at departmental units and workgroups.

Toshiba Rolls Out 500GB Netbook HDDs

Toshiba says thanks to hardware and software improvements its new hard drives are about 13 percent faster than those in its previous 7,200 rpm product line. The MKxx56GSY series offers data storage capacities of up to 500GB and lower power consumption.

Intel Rolls out New Core i7, Server Chips

Intel is bringing its “Nehalem” architecture into mainstream PCs through its new Core i5-570 processor, which is aimed at multimedia-intense applications. The new chip is aimed at systems that run around $1,000, a drop from the high-end Core i7 processors unveiled a year ago that were targeted at high-end systems that cost as much as $1,700 or more. Intel also launched its Xeon 3400 Series chips, which are Nehalem-based processors aimed at the SMB market. And Lenovo announced two new ThinkServer systems powered by the new Xeon 3400 chips.

Fujitsu Rolls Out Aggregated 1GbE/10GbE Switches

Fujitsu Computer Products of America is adding a pair of 1GbE/10GbE network switches to its family of XG switches. The move is designed to allow businesses to integrate 1GbE traffic into their 10GbE networks, and gives them a migration path to 10GbE. The move comes at a time when such trends as increased video traffic and Web 2.0 workloads are driving demand for greater network capacity. Already some businesses are looking at 40GbE, and Alcatel-Lucent and Juniper have unveiled 100GbE interface cards.

Rolls Royce to build new plants in UK, Singapore

Engine maker Rolls Royce (RR.L) said today it would build or extend four factories in Britain and open a new plant in Singapore, creating new jobs in both countries.

The British company plans to invest over 300 million pounds ($712 million) in the UK where unemployment is running at the highest rate in 12 years. The government will contribute 45 million pounds towards the projects which are expected to create or secure 800 jobs.
