Personal computer-related storage always has had to follow advances in connectivity. When USB 2.0 came into play a few years ago on PCs and handheld devices, earlier external drives based on USB 1.0 were stuck without an easy upgrade path. Although they work with newer USB versions, the connectivity is not ideal.
