Resorts World Sentosa to begin phased opening: Update

Genting Singapore Plc unit Resorts World Sentosa said it plans to begin a phased opening of its casino project in Singapore on Jan 20.

The casino resort will start taking room and restaurant reservations for its first four hotels Jan 11, the company said in a statement e-mailed today. The casino will be opened once the company gets its casino license, it said.

Victoria’s Secret to open first outlet in Resorts World at Sentosa, say reports

Victoria’s Secret will open its first Asian store at Genting Bhd.’s gambling resort on the island of Sentosa in Singapore, the local press reported.

The lingerie retailer will open at Resorts World in the first quarter, the newspaper said, citing Ashvin Valiram, director of Malaysia-based retailer Valiram Group.

It plans to fly in brand ambassadors such as Sharon Stone and Orlando Bloomto various events, and doesn’t rule out organising the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, say the reports.

Sentosa Cove’s $10m home sales rise

Twenty-four Sentosa Cove homes that cost at least $10 million were sold in the first 10 months of the year, more than the total for the previous four years, the local press said.

Seventeen residences on the Singapore island sold for at least that price between the fourth quarter of 2004 and the fourth quarter of 2008, the Singapore-based newspaper said, citing data from Savills Singapore, a real-estate consultancy, and the Urban Redevelopment Authority.

More than half the transactions were conducted from September to October, including a property that sold for a record $30 million, the report said.

Sentosa acquires remaining 50% shares in Mount Faber Leisure Group

Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) says it has signed an agreement with Hazeltree Holdings, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Temasek Holdings, to purchase the latter’s 50% holding in Mount Faber Leisure Group (MFLG) with immediate effect. MFLG has now become the 100% owned subsidiary company of SDC.

MFLG, which owns and manages the new Jewel Rides, previously known as cable car rides, as well as The Jewel Box hilltop tourist attraction, will remain committed to building its successful brand and to serving its passionate community.

Genting’s progress at Singapore casino presses Sands, WSJ says

Genting Bhd. is on track for a partial opening of its Singapore casino resort by Christmas, putting it ahead of the competing project by Sheldon Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands Corp., the Wall Street Journal reported.

Genting’s official target date for opening its US$4.4 billion ($6.1 billion) Resorts World on the island of Sentosa is still early 2010, the newspaper said. Genting has been quietly preparing for an earlier ramp-up, and the consensus among market watchers is that it will open before the Marina Bay Sands project in Singapore’s business district.
