Singapore’s retail sales excluding motor vehicles rose at a slower pace in September after the economy contracted last quarter.
The index measuring purchases excluding automobiles climbed 5.3% from a year earlier in September, after gaining a revised 6.4% in August, the Statistics Department said today. Including vehicles, which are sold subject to government caps, total retail sales rose 0.3%, less than the median forecast for a 1.5% increase in a Bloomberg News survey of eight economists.

Visitor arrivals to Singapore in September dipped from August despite the city-state hosting the Formula One Grand Prix in the month.
The city-state’s tourism authority said on Friday that tourist arrivals in September totalled 947,000, down from 996,000 in August.

Singapore’s industrial production rose at the fastest pace in three months, an advance that may ease as a slowdown in world economic growth hurts demand for electronics and pharmaceuticals.
Manufacturing, which accounts for about a quarter of the economy, climbed 26.2% in September from a year earlier, after a revised 7.7% increase in August, the Economic Development Board said in a statement today. The median estimate of 17 economists surveyed by Bloomberg was for a 19% gain.
