K. Serb returnee seriously injured

A Serb returnee to the Kosovo village of Opraške near Osojane was attacked and seriously injured in his home, FoNet reports. The news agency is quoting statements of other Serbs in the area, and identifies the man as Branko Milovanović.

Kosovo: 10 people vote in Serb areas

Voting was repeated in the town of Kosovska Mitrovica on Sunday without major incidents, but with a low turnout, said reports. The elections, organized by the government in Priština, were originally held on December 12.

Suspension lifted for Serb KPS member

A Serb man employed by the Kosovo police, KPS, in Zvečan, northern Kosovo, will return to work, said reports. Nenad Đurić was suspended after he failed to carry out a decision made by the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Priština to confiscate MUP-issued license plates for towns in Kosovo.

Serb officials in message to local KPS

Serbian officials in northern Kosovo have called on members of the Kosovo police, KPS, not to carry out “warped decisions of the Kosovo (Albanian) government”. They were also asked to “decide to which nation and which state they belong”.

Turkish decision to release surgeon Yusuf Sonmez pending trial is shameful, said Association of the Serb Municipalities in Kosovo Deputy President Marko Jakšić.

He told Radio KiM that this would not help resolve crimes against the Serb civilians.

Vojvodina party wants Serb Radicals banned

The League of Vojvodina Social Democrats (LSV) on Monday once again requested that the Serb Radical Party (SRS) be banned.
LSV offcials noted that the Constitutional Court of Serbia should consider this option.

Phones still cut off in Serb enclave

Tuesday marked 100 days since the Kosovo Albanian authorities cut off telephone lines to a number of Serb communities south of the Ibar River. A performance was staged in front of the ambulance station in the village of Laplje Selo, central Kosovo, to mark the occasion of 100 days since phone lines to the emergency service of the health-care center in Gračanica were severed, the health institution said.

Serb party wants to join Thaci

Independent Liberal Party (SLS) leader Slobodan Petrović says his party is willing to form a ruling coalition with Hashim Thaci’s Democratic Party of Kosovo.

“The good experience we had with the ruling parties during the last term will help us make the decision to be part of the Kosovo government once again. What is important and clear for the SLS is our determination to support the political principles based in European values,” Petrović said in an interview with BBCAlbanian.com.

Prosecutor on obstructions in search for Mladić

War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukčević says until mid-2008 that there was obstruction in the search for the remaining two Hague Tribunal indictees. According to him, all those who in any way aided former Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladić and former Croatian Serb political leader Goran Hadžić will be “processed”.

Opposition party sets date for rally

The opposition Serb Progressives (SNS) have scheduled an anti-government rally in Belgrade for February 4. The Serb Radical Party (SRS) offshoot has not been tested in a general election, but opinion polls consistently show it to be one of the two most popular political parties in Serbia, along with the ruling Democrats (DS).

Serb party says won’t join Thaci

One of the Serb parties that took part in elections organized by the Kosovo Albanian government said they would not join a coalition with Hashim Thaci. Radamila Trajković, who was running in the recent Kosovo elections for the United Serb List (JSL), stated on Thursday that members of the civic initiative will not form a coalition with the outgoing Kosovo Albanian PM, whose party won majority of the vote.

Dodik wants territory demarcated

RS President Milorad Dodik said that the Serb entity will mark the inter-ethnic border, “whether someone likes it or not”. The post-war Bosnia is made up of the Serb entity (RS), and the Muslim-Croat Federation.

United Serb List leader Radmila Trajković has stated that her list does not want to join Hashim Thaci’s government.

She told B92 that Thaci had contacted her several times but that she had refused the offer.

Turnout and results unclear in Serb areas

After the polls closed in the Kosovo elections this Sunday, it is still unknown how many Serbs voted, or which parties they supported. The elections were organized by the ethnic Albanian authorities, with the government in Belgrade deciding not to call on Serbs to vote.

Croatia: 13 Serb victims identified

The Serbian Government’s Missing Persons Committee has announced that remains of 13 Serbs who were killed in the 1991-1995 war in Croatia have been identified.

The victims were exhumed in the towns of Petrinja, Dvor, Vukovar, Osijek, Kukunjevci and other locations, and the identification procedure was conducted at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Criminology of the Zagreb School of Medicine.

KFOR commander’s concern for returnees

KFOR Commander Erhard Buehler on Thursday visited Serb returnees to the Kosovo village of Žač, mainly populated by ethnic Albanians. The Serb returnees have been living in tents since last summer, expecting to move into their newly-built homes.

Serb, Croat presidents attend business forum

Serbian President Boris Tadić is spending the second day of his official visit to Croatia attending a business forum along with his host Ivo Josipović. The Zagreb event brought together representatives of 40 Croatian and more than 70 Serbian companies, institutes, banks and regional chambers of commerce.

Serb, Croat leaders receive death threats

Republic of Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in Bosnia leader Dragan Čović have received anonymous death threats.

According to Banja Luka-based daily Glas Srpske, the threats were sent to their respective party headquarters in Banja Luka and Mostar.

Dodik names RS PM designate

President of the Serb republic (RS) in Bosnia Milorad Dodik announced on Tuesday that he has named Aleksandar Džombić prime minister designate. The 42-year-old previously served as minister of finance of the government of the Serb entity.
