“Constitutional changes not priority”

There are more important tasks in 2011 than changing the Constitution, says Serbian parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović.

She explained that blank resignation letters could be revoked with changes to the law.

SNS collects signatures for referendum

The Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) has collected 150,000 signatures and will soon ask the Serbian parliament to call a referendum on constitutional changes.

SNS leader Tomislav Nikolić added that the changes would reduce the number of seats in the parliament from 240 to 125.

President signs 2011 state budget

Serbian President Boris Tadić has approved the draft state budget for 2011 and accompanying laws that were adopted by the Serbian parliament on Wednesday.

The president has also approved a set of judicial laws, as well as changes to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance.

Deputies of the Serbian parliament today in Belgrade adopted the draft state budget for 2011, prepared by the government. 128 MPs voted in favor of the proposal which envisages a budget deficit of RSD 120.5bn (EUR 1.14bn).

The deputy president of SPS, Slavica Đukić-Dejanović, says that she expects a government reshuffle to take place.
But the ruling Socialist Party official, who is also the Serbian parliament speaker, told Belgrade daily Blic on Monday that SPS “has no reason to give up any of the ministries” it holds in the current cabinet.

MPs adopt revision of 2010 state budget

Serbian parliament members today in Belgrade voted in favor of a draft 2010 budget revision, which the Cvetković government sent to parliament.
Under the proposed amendments to the Law on the 2010 Budget of the Republic of Serbia, the budget deficit will be RSD 120bn (some EUR 1.13bn).

Belgrade has Kosovo talks platform and team

The authorities in Belgrade have decided what their platform will be in the dialogue with PriÅ¡tina, that is expected to begin in the coming period. Finance minister presents revision draft

The 2010 budget revision is the government wish to strike a balance between stimulating the economy and achieving social cohesion, says the finance minister. Presenting the budget revision at the Serbian parliament, Diana Dragutinović pointed out that it envisages a budget deficit of RSD 120bn, since expenditures add up to RSD 780bn, while revenues total RSD 660bn.

MPs set to debate 2010 budget review

The Serbian parliament is meeting in Belgrade today to discuss the draft revision of the country’s 2010 budget. The draft, which envisages a budget deficit increase of RSD 13bn (some EUR 125mn) was forwarded to MPs by the government last week. In all, the deficit will reach RSD 120bn (EUR 1.1bn) after this revision.

Božidar Đelić denied that there were bounty hunters in Serbia and said the state would not allow anyone else to search for the Hague fugitives in its territory. Intl. conference on human trafficking

An international conference opened today in Belgrade to coincide with European Day Against Human Trafficking. The gathering is being held at the Serbian parliament building, and Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović stated that this institution is an important partner in the implementation of the national mechanism for prevention of human trafficking, underscoring that there is no successful processing of those who exploit others or successful protection of victims without concrete laws.

Declaration condemning crimes adopted

The Serbian parliament adopted a declaration condemning the crimes committed against the Serb people and citizens of Serbia.
The crimes were committed during the armed conflicts in the former Yugoslavia.
