One dead in Belgrade traffic accident

One person died, while another was seriously injured in a traffic accident in Belgrade this morning. The Serbian police (MUP) say that the accident happened on the Gazela bridge when a Yamaha motorbike skidded off the road and hit a railing.

Kidnapped boy found in Belgrade suburb

A three-year-old boy whom two men kidnapped in the Belgrade neighborhood of Bežanijska Kosa on Saturday has been found alive, MUP said. The Serbian police (MUP) specified that the Roma boy was found near the suburb of Makiš, but did not give any further details about the case.

Police outlaw cars that failed to re-register

Cars with foreign and so-called economy, or commercial license plates that have not been re-registered, are banned from Serbia’s roads starting today. According to a statement from the Serbian police (MUP), if identified on the road, such vehicles will be excluded from traffic with their license plates confiscated, while drivers face misdemeanor charges.

Bosnian, Montenegrin police begin joint patrols

Bosnian and Montenegrin border police are carrying out joint frontier patrols in an attempt to clamp down on cross-border crime. Under an earlier signed protocol, members of the Bosnian Border Police are already carrying out mixed patrols with Croatian and Serbian police officers, Radio Free Europe reports.

Serbian police arrest four foreign fugitives

Serbian police have arrested four foreign citizens with Interpol warrants out for their arrest, while Macedonian police have arrested one Serbian national. Belgrade police arrested Croatian Ranko Å ljubura (62) on the basis of an Interpol warrant issued by Zagreb regarding the serving of a war crimes sentences, police stated yesterday.

Dačić: No state of emergency in south

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić says there are “no signs of a state of emergency” in southern Serbia. He said that the Serbian police (MUP) elite force, the Gendarmerie (Žandarmerija), did raise its level of alert in that part of the country.

Albanian leaders express displeasure

Political leaders from southern Serbia say the situation in the region is stable, but the state is ignoring people living in that area of the country. The latest incidents in southern Serbia were enough for Bujanovac Municipal President Å aip Kamberi to accuse the Serbian police of repression in the region.

President, ministers visit south in wake of attack

President Boris Tadić says that yesterday’s attack on Gendarmerie members was an act of terrorism, but that the state will not respond with excessive force. On a visit to a Serbian police (MUP) Gendarmerie base in the Ground Safety Zone (GSZ), Tadić said that those responsible for yesterday’s attack, where two Gendarmerie members were wounded, would be treated as an act of terrorism.
