K. Albanians “seek help persuading Serbs”

“Kosovo institutions have asked for help from international factors in order to entice Kosovo Serbs to take part in local elections,” writes a PriÅ¡tina daily. Albanian language newspaper Koha Ditore explains that thus far, not a single “political subject” in five municipalities with majority Serb population has applied to take part in the ballot scheduled for November. These municipalities are “supposed to be formed in the fall”.

Witness recalls 1991 Krajina murders

A witness has recalled the murder of ten civilians by Krajina police in the village of Bruška in 1991, at the trial of Jovica Stanišić and Franko Simatović. Stanišić, the former head of Serbian state security, and his former deputy Simatović are accused of war crimes against non-Serbs in Croatia and Bosnia between 1991and 1995.

“Too early for Serbs to work in EULEX courts”

JM State Secretary Slobodan Homen says that there are no conditions for the entry of Serbs and other non-Albanians into the EULEX judiciary. “EULEX has not defined the territory under the jurisdiction of the Kosovska Mitrovica court or regulations for its work,” he explained in Kosovska Mitrovica yesterday.

“EULEX wanted to incite clashes”

The Serb National Council president in northern Kosovo, Milan Ivanović, has accused EULEX officials of trying to provoke clashes with protesting Serbs. Serbs from northern Kosovo gathered again yesterday to protest the imposition of new EULEX customs regulations by blocking the main road from Raška to Kosovska Mitrovica.

“Construction of Serb apartments to continue”

Kosovo Labor and Social Welfare Minister Nenad RaÅ¡ić says that the construction of flats for Serbs in Kosovo will continue. During his visit to Gračanica, RaÅ¡ić said that this was “the only way” for Serbs to survive in the region.

Power completely cut off to Serb enclave

A Kosovo company distributing electricity has cut off the Serbs living in Sirnićka Župa region from the power grid at midnight. The households there were previously allowed to use the so-called humanitarian electricity, when they were reconnected daily from midnight until 7 o’clock in the morning.

B. Serbs mark anniversary of massacres

Serbs in Bratunac and Srebrenica, eastern Bosnia, are today marking 17 years since the massacre of more than 3,200 of their compatriots. They were killed in 1992 and 1993 by the forces led by Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) Naser Orić.

Status returned to 2,259 “erased” in Slovenia

The Slovenian government has returned citizenship status to 2,259 people, mainly Serbs, of a total 26,000 erased from the state electoral register in the 1990s. The Slovenian Interior Ministry stated that since July 6, 2,259 retroactive residency permits had been issued, according to the STA agency.
