Chris Robinson Brotherhood: Extensive Cali Shows Mar-May

OH LUCKY CALIFORNIA!

Little is currently known about the Chris Robinson Brotherhood outside of a real yen to play the Golden State a LOT and a couple of intriguing graphics at their website. A little birdie with a beard told us last summer that great SoCal musician Jonathan Wilson and fellow Black Crowe Adam MacDougall will be involved. He also said there’s a small pile of new songs he’s been itching to share. We’ll keep you updated as things develop, but at least you can mark your calendars for the launch of this new project as The Black Crowes begin the first phase of their hiatus.

Check out this blast from the past
, a chat with Chris right after the first Crowes hiatus as he began work on New Earth Mud!

Macworld Shows Off a Slew of Creative, Colorful New Products

Some 270 Apple products vendors& the highest number in the 27-year history of the Macworld Expo& and upwards of 20,000 attendees were on hand Jan. 27 for the three-day event at Moscone West in San Francisco. That is, all except Apple itself, which is MIA for the second year. Macworld President Paul Kent told eWEEK that about one-third of the vendors and half the attendees are new to the event this year, a clear indicator that Apple is reaching new stature in the world market with the iPhone 4 and iPad products it released in 2010. On the show floor, a flurry of color and activity could be found on Day 1, with new music-, photo- and storage-related products; an iPad-connected smart-card reader; a Macintosh-run PBX phone system; a clever write-on-paper, show-on-screen classroom system for teachers; and a video-sharing application for iPhones and iPads. Entertainment this year includes comedian Sinbad and Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudness, who will demo his Morphwhiz music application, which is an iPad synthesizer he uses in live performances. Here are highlights of this year’s show. (Photos by Chris Preimesberger, eWEEK.) – …

LG Electronics Shows Off Something for Everyone at CES

Phone maker LG Electronics used the opportunity of the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show to introduce more than a dozen new devices. In the mix were a handful of smartphones, including LG’s first with Windows Phone 7; 4G USB modems for Verizon Wireless and AT&T’s pending LTE network; two Bluetooth headsets& including one that runs on solar power& and a wireless charging pad. In early 2010, LG announced its goal to become one of the top two global phone makers by 2012, and part of its strategy has been& just as with competitors such as Samsung& to heartily embrace Google’s Android OS. Among the new LG phones are three Android-running Optimus models designed for first-time smartphone owners. A month earlier, in mid-December, LG also covered the opposite end of the spectrum with the introduction of the Optimus 2X, the world’s first smartphone with a dual-core processor. Unseating either Nokia or Samsung for a top-two spot will be a long road, and it appears LG is just getting started. – …

Microsoft Shows ARM-Based Windows, Surface 2, New Laptops at CES

Microsoft’s Jan. 5 press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show centered on the company’s announcement that the next version of Windows will support SoC (system-on-a-chip) architecture, in particular ARM-based systems from partners such as Qualcomm, Nvidia and Texas Instruments. Steven Sinofsky, president of Windows and Windows Live Division, declined to offer many details about that fabled next Windows build, but nonetheless company executives used the event to show off some up-and-coming technologies. Among those technologies: Surface 2, the next version of Microsoft’s table-size touch-screen device developed in conjunction with Samsung and due later this year. Microsoft also displayed ultralight and touch-screen-centric laptops running Windows 7. Finally, Sinofsky and company briefly demonstrated Windows running natively on laptops powered by ARM chips. Windows currently dominates the x86 platform used by traditional PCs, but the rise of mobile devices& mostly powered by ARM chip designs& has created a market the company wants to penetrate in a major way. – …

The Disco Biscuits Drum Up Support for New York Shows

The Disco Biscuits

The Disco Biscuits have
announced that drummer Allen Aucoin will not be performing at their New York
Terminal 5 shows this week due to a severe asthma attack. He will return with the band on December 30th and 31st
at The Tower Theatre in Philadelphia, PA

The show will go on in New York as the band has recruited some of their drummer friends to fill in for Allen.
On Monday night, Mike Greenfield from Lotus will perform with the band for his fourth time. Adam Deitch
from
Break Science and Pretty Lights will play on Tuesday along with Darren Shearer from the New
Deal
. On Wednesday,
The Disco Biscuits’ original drummer Dr. Sam Altman will close out their New York Run.

“I know from experience that situations like this one with Allen can be turned into a positive one, and we intend to
rage the roof off of T5 this week” said bassist Marc Brownstein from his New York hotel Sunday night.

For more information visit discobiscuits.com

Here is the official message from the band:

Happy Holidays!

2010 has been a great year, but it has not been without its challenges. And no matter what gets dealt to us at this
point, we know that we are going to get through it, in no small part due to the support our fans have shown us.
Throughout the year, we have been forced to respond to adversity with calm and strength. We always try to take
lemons and make lemonade. In the process, we have made new friends, and found out how much we are capable of
during times of duress.

Well if we hadn’t been through enough, last night we received a call from Allen’s father. Yesterday, Allen suffered a
serious asthma attack and was hospitalized. He will be fine, but unfortunately will not be released from the hospital
until Tuesday. Fortunately, his doctors have cleared him to play on December 30 and 31. Our thoughts are with Allen
and his family.

For tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday, we are putting together an amazing line-up with drummers that we have
played with in other projects throughout the years. We are blessed to have such a strong network of amazing
drummers to call on. Check it out:

Tomorrow, we are honored to welcome Mike Greenfield from Lotus. This will be the fourth time Mike plays a show
with us, and they are always classic sets.

On Tuesday, we’ll be joined by two of the hottest drummers in North America. We are proud to welcome Adam Deitch
from Break Science and Pretty Lights. As well we are excited to be joined by Darren Shearer from the New Deal.

On Wednesday we are being joined by our old friend, Dr. Sam Altman.

We’re not sure what else to really say, other than to keep Allen in your thoughts and prayers and we promise to
deliver you wonderful, well thought-out shows while we are waiting for our brother to get back up here and join us
for the new year.

Thank you so much for your support. We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow.
