Singapore employers added fewer jobs than initially estimated

Singapore employers expanded payrolls at a slower pace than initially estimated as the completion of some building projects prompted construction companies to hold back from adding new workers.

The city state added 20,500 jobs in the three months through September, compared with an earlier forecast of 24,100, the Ministry of Manpower said in a statement today. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 2.1%.

Singapore employers added more jobs than initially estimated last quarter, pushing the unemployment rate to the lowest level in almost two years as a strengthening economy boosted hiring sentiment.

The city state added 36,500 jobs, compared with an earlier forecast of 34,000, according to revised figures released by the Ministry of Manpower today. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 2.2% in the three months through March from 2.3% the previous quarter.

The city state added 36,500 jobs last quarter, compared with an earlier forecast of 34,000. That was the third straight quarter the economy added jobs.

Singapore employers boost payrolls for third straight quarter

Singapore employers expanded payrolls for a third straight quarter as faster economic growth prompted companies to increase hiring at casinos and factories.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 2.2% in the three months ended March from a revised 2.3% the previous quarter, the Ministry of Manpower said today. The median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey of six economists was for a jobless rate of 2.1%. The city state added an estimated 34,000 new jobs last quarter.

Singapore employers increase payrolls, helped by casino resorts

Singapore employers expanded payrolls for a second straight quarter as the island’s new casino resorts started hiring amid a strengthening economy.
 
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 2.1% in the three months ended December from 3.4% in the previous quarter, the Ministry of Manpower said today. The median estimate in a Bloomberg News survey of seven economists was for an unchanged rate. The city-state added 38,700 new jobs last quarter, bringing the total number to 38,800 in 2009.

Bosses cut fewer jobs last quarter amid recovery

Singapore employers fired fewer workers last quarter as demand for goods and services improved after the economy emerged from its worst recession in more than four decades.

Total employment rose 15,400 in the three months through September, compared with a loss of 7,700 jobs the previous quarter, the Ministry of Manpower said today. Employers cut 2,200 jobs last quarter, pushing the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate to 3.4% from 3.3%.
