Power.ME a Good Tool for Solo Use

AppTime’s Power.ME and Power.ME HD do a good job of providing a framework for individuals and ad hoc workgroups. What they offer is a brace of project- and task-management tools that allow users to maintain data synchronization across a range of mobile devices. Currently, iOS devices from Apple are supported, with Android support coming soon, according to the company. A Web client is also available. What they don’t offer& yet, anyway& is easy and straightforward integration with the rest of the business. If your need is for something that easily ties into Microsoft Exchange or a CalDAV-based system, keep looking. Although there are some questionable aspects of Power.ME, it’s useful as a tool for personal organization. It’s easy to create tasks, projects and folders, and to associate them as needed. The synchronization of these with the Power.ME service is impressively seamless. One drawback is the nonstandard user controls for editing and deletion. – …

Gomez’s Ben Ottewell: Solo Album

GOMEZ MAN STEPS OUT WITH TUNNG PAL

solo
album

Ben Ottewell, one of several
singer/songwriters in the British rock band Gomez, will release his first solo album, Shapes & Shadows, via ATO
Records on February 15, 2011. The nine tracks on Shapes & Shadows were co-produced by Ottewell and
Will Golden and mixed by Tom Biller (Liars, Warpaint, Karen O) at The Chalet in Los Angeles.

Shapes & Shadows will be available on CD and in MP3 or FLAC digital formats, and is available individually or
bundled with an exclusive t-shirt and a five-track digital EP containing acoustic versions of four of the songs from
the album plus a special cover song. This EP will be available to download on the album’s release date. All pre-
orders of Shapes & Shadows will also receive the track “Lightbulbs” as a free MP3 download at the time of
purchase. You can pre-order the album and stream “Lightbulbs” now at www.benottewell.com.

Ottewell collaborated with childhood friend Sam Genders, previously of Tunng, on the ideas that became
Shapes & Shadows. Otwell explains, “Sam and I grew up together in a little village called Bonsall in
Derbyshire and have been friends since childhood. I love his songwriting — the stuff he did with Tunng and The
Accidental, particularly lyrically. We’ve been wanting to do this sort of thing for a while now. Having grown up
together, there is a strong theme of looking back or recollecting.”

Warren Haynes Solo Album Out Spring 2011

ALBUM FEATURES GEORGE PORTER JR, IVAN NEVILLE, IAN MCLAGAN,
RUTHIE FOSTER, & RON
HOLLOWAY

Warren Haynes

Warren Haynes has
revealed details of his upcoming solo album in an interview with Relix.com.

The album will feature Haynes, George Porter Jr on bass, Ivan Neville and Ian McClagan
(The Faces) on keys, vocalist Ruthie Foster, and Ron Holloway on saxophone. Haynes describes
the album as “all original material with one exception, but it sounds like the soul music of the late ‘60s, early ‘70s
blended with Albert King, B.B. King and Freddie King type blues from that same era”.

Says Haynes, “This is a record I’ve waited my whole life to make because soul music was my first love. Before I ever
heard rock
and roll music, I was listening to soul music. Before I picked up a guitar, I was singing—and everything I was
singing was soul music. For me, I think it’s the right time to showcase this side of me. Obviously anybody who’s
followed my career has seen this side of me before—but not to this extent.”

The album is due out Spring 2011.

HBR’s Aaron Redner’s Solo CD Release Show

A BOFFO ASSEMBLAGE OF BAY AREA TALENT THIS THURSDAY

Aaron Redner

Aaron Redner (Hot Buttered Rum) will be throwing a CD release bash for his new solo project City by the Bay at The Connecticut Yankee in San Francisco on Thursday, September 16, starting at 9 pm.

“I’m so excited to play the songs from City by the Bay live,” says Redner, “and can’t think of a better place than my favorite neighborhood tavern!”

Other musicians expected to perform include:

Dave Brogan (ALO, Newfangled Wasteland)
Chris Haugen (Jambay, Newfangled Wasteland)
Kate Gaffney
Nat Keefe (HBR)
Erik Yates (HBR)
Bryan Horne (HBR)
And other special guests!

City by the Bay is the happy product of a three-month break from the road after seven years of hard touring in Hot Buttered Rum. It showcases multiple facets of this multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, and will likely tickle the fancy of Redner’s HBR fans but also open up his lyrical, appealing work to a larger audience.

And this week folks in the Bay Area have a chance to see the songs come to life onstage. Tickets are $7 at the door and The Connecticut Yankee is located at 100 Connecticut St. in San Francisco.
