Journalist threatened in Kosovo

The South and East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO) strongly condemned the threat allegedly made by a local businessman against reporter Visar Duriqi. The reporter is a correspondent for the daily newspaper Infopress in Priština, the network of editors, media executives and leading journalists from South East Europe and an affiliate of the International Press Institute (IPI) said in a statement.

Serbian reps won’t attend SE Europe conference

Conference on South East Europe will begin in Berlin tonight. Representatives of the Serbian government will not attend the meeting.

German and Austrian Foreign Ministers Guido Westerwelle and Michael Spindelegger will open the conference which will be attended by foreign ministers and other high officials of the countries of the region.

PM: Serbia in EU between 2014 and 2016

Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković stated in Belgrade on Tuesday that Serbia may become an EU member between 2014 and 2016. At the Euromoney conference on finances and investments in South-East Europe, Cvetković pointed out that he does not wish to speculate on the exact date of the EU accession, adding that it will certainly happen after the current government’s mandate.

SEEMO announces 2010 awards

The winner of the 2010 Dr. Erhard Busek-SEEMO Award for Better Understanding in South East Europe. The international 11-member jury chose veteran journalist and editor Omer Karabeg, in recognition of his continuous and outstanding contribution to better communication, exchange and cooperation in South East Europe, and especially in the West Balkan region, said a statement.

MEPs call for visa liberalization for Kosovo

Chairman of the European Parliament’s Delegation for South East Europe Eduard Kukan has requested that visa liberalization for Kosovo is quickly prepared.

He said this after the EP had lifted visa regime for citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania on Thursday.

The South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO) strongly condemns the second bomb attack at the house of Časlav Milisavljević.
He is editor-in-chief of Radio Kosovska Mitrovica, in the northern municipality of Zvečan.

The South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO) has expressed concern over the recently adopted Romanian National Defense Strategy. The network of editors, media executives and leading journalists in South East and Central Europe noted in a statement issued in Vienna on Wednesday that president of Romania initiated the making of the document which contained, among other things, serious allegations against the media.

Serbian President Boris Tadić will take part in the Summit Meeting of the Heads of State and Government of South East Europe in Istanbul on Wednesday. The South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO) has announced the First South East and Central Europe Investigative Journalism Days. The network of editors, media executives and leading journalists from South East and Central Europe and an affiliate of the International Press Institute (IPI), said in a statement issued in Vienna today that the gathering will be held in Budva, Montenegro, May 24-26.

Pressure on media in Bulgaria, Romania condemned

The South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO) said it was alarmed at the political pressure being exercised on media in both Romania and Bulgaria. According to information received by SEEMO, on 13 April 2010 in Romania’s Senate, Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc grabbed the microphone of a journalist working for the private network Realitatea TV and then publicly accused Realitatea TV of causing disorder through biased and misinformed broadcasting.

The South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO) today strongly condemned the attack on journalist Rade TeÅ¡ić. TeÅ¡ić, who works for Euroblic, the Bosnian edition of Belgrade’s Blic daily, on March 13 had his car, parked near his house in Doboj, Bosnia, set on fire.

Hungarian daily “faces editorial policy censorship”

The South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO) is concerned about political pressure on Novi Sad daily Magyar Szo, a statement from the organization said. Magyar Szo is the only Hungarian language newspaper in Serbia’s northern Vojvodina province, which, SEEMO said, in February faced accusations from the Hungarian National Council that it “does not serve the Hungarian community in Serbia properly due to the bad editorial policy”.

The South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO) issued a statement strongly condemning threats against Vehbi Kajtazi. Kajtazi is a journalist for the Albanian language daily newspaper Koha Ditore, published in Priština.

SEEMO criticizes pressure on Serbian weekly

The South East Europe Media Organization (SEEMO) is alarmed at the strong political pressure being exercised on the Serbian weekly Vranjske. ”Since the weekly published some critical articles, certain members of a local political party are jeopardizing the right of the Vranjske journalists to inform the public in a professional and objective way,” SEEMO stated.

Jeremić speaks at 20th CEI meeting

At the 20th Central European Initiative (CEI) Summit, FM Vuk Jeremić said that Serbia had been working on bringing the entire Balkans closer to the EU. “We promoted political integration through the South-East Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP) and Regional Cooperation Council (RCC).”

Serbia accepted to SEDM

Serbia has been admitted to fully-fledged membership of the South-East Europe Defense Ministerial, having previously held observer status.
State Secretary Dušan Spasojević, the head of the Defense Ministry delegation at the conference in Sofia, said that fully-fledged membership in the South-East Europe Defense Ministerial showed that the ministry and the Serbian military had been recognized as strong and reliable partners in strengthening peace and stability in the region.

Croatia pledges support to Macedonia

Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor has told Macedonian President Gjorgje Ivanov that Zagreb supports Skopje’s Euro-Atlantic integration. Kosor said that the deadlock in Croatia’s negotiating process with the European Union had negatively impacted on the countries of South-East Europe, according to a statement from the Croatian government.
