EC expected to find excise taxes violation of SAA

The EC could send an official letter to Belgrade on Friday, stating that dual excise taxes on oil derivates violate European regulations, B92 has learned.

Serbian parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović told B92 that she expected the government to propose changes to the Excise Tax Law in order to harmonize it with the European standards.

The Serbian parliament has prepared answers to its part of the EC questionnaire.

“Budget should be adopted by Dec. 29″

Parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović has said she is convinced the 2011 budget will be adopted by December 29. She added that this could also happen “by the last sitting of the parliament fall session”.

“No formal talks on Constitution changes”

Parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović has stated that the idea of amending the Constitution has been mentioned, but that no formal talks are being held.
Given the problems Serbia currently has, including the European roadmap, the Belgrade-Priština dialogue, and the fight against organized crime, the issue of amending the Constitution will not be on the agenda for at least a year, Đukić-Dejanović said.

Speaker on MPs blank resignation letters

Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović is advocating changes to the Constitution to revoke MPs’ blank resignations which is one of conditions for EU integrations.

One third of so-called “ten European commandments” that Serbia needs to fulfill in order to obtain candidate status refer to parliament.

Intl. conference on human trafficking

An international conference opened today in Belgrade to coincide with European Day Against Human Trafficking. The gathering is being held at the Serbian parliament building, and Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović stated that this institution is an important partner in the implementation of the national mechanism for prevention of human trafficking, underscoring that there is no successful processing of those who exploit others or successful protection of victims without concrete laws.

Speaker sends greeting for Ramadan Bayram

Parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović greeted Serbian Muslims celebrating Ramadan Bayram on Thursday. She sent greeting for the holiday to the Reis-Ul-Ulema (the Grand Mufti) Adem Zilkić and all Muslims in Serbia.

“European perspective helps maintain peace”

Parliamentary Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović said that the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries helps to maintain peace in the region. She opened a two-day meeting of the Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Belgrade.

Parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović announced on Tuesday that she will schedule an extraordinary session for mid-September. “I think it could be around the middle of the month. I need time to prepare the session as I expect more bills to come in,” Đukić-Dejanović told Tanjug.

Newly elected judges and deputy public prosecutions were sworn in before Parliament Speaker Slavica Đukić-Dejanović. These court officials were elected on July 28 on the proposal of the High Council for Courts and the State Prosecution’s Chamber.

Spain will continue to advocate Serbia’s rapid integration into the EU even after the ICJ announces its opinion on Kosovo.
