Described by the PR blurb as a “Jamaican sprint superhero,” the undoubtedly quick Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt visited the Ferrari headquarters in Maranello, Italy today (16 November).
The world’s fastest man – who was also at the San Siro in Milan yesterday to see the Inter-Milan football squad – tested some of Ferrari’s swift motors at the Fiorano track.
As with most sportspeople these days, Bolt wasn’t missing any commercial trick and was also is in Italy to promote his new Puma apparel and footwear collection, but took time out from generating ever-larger amounts of money to visit the Ferrari headquarters in Maranello.
Following a tour of the factory, he got behind the wheel of a 458 Italia and 599 GTB Fiorano.
“Being at Ferrari headquarters is a memorable experience; there’s so much history here. I’m looking forward to getting one of these cars to give me my fix for speed,” opined the sprinter.
It’s not clear if Ferrari’s largesse extends to actually providing Mr Bolt with one of its models gratis, but fair play to him for trying anyway.

T-Mobiles new G2 Android smart phone is the successor to the phone that started the Android movement, the G1. Unlike most other Android phones, this device supports T-Mobiles high-speed HSPA+ version of 3G, which gives it a speed advantage over other 3G devices, as well as the current crop of 4G devices. While T-Mobiles 3G service is still being built out, when you find an area with a good signal, the whole Android experience seems more seamless. As is the case with previous Android devices, the G2 will work with a wide variety of e-mail systems. In addition it will support streaming HD video and streaming audio. Google on Aug. 30 launched Priority Inbox, the company’s effort to better organize and prioritize e-mail messages. In beta now, Priority Inbox lets users designate some messages as more important than others. Gmail Priority Inbox uses an algorithm that flags messages as important, using social cues, messaging frequency and other signals. The tool shows 25 messages by default, though users may change this to show five, 10 or 50 items. Users can also set up filters to make sure certain messages are always designated as important. This effort, following on the heels of similar tools such as Xobni, Gist and Liaise, serves as a salve at a time when users are feeling the weight of e-mail and general digital information overload. THE ability of a helicopter to hover and land almost anywhere makes it an enormously useful machine. But helicopters have their limitations, particularly when it comes to flying fast. In a recent series of test flights, a new type of chopper has begun smashing speed records.
The X2 is an experimental helicopter being developed by Sikorsky, an American company, at a test-flight centre in Florida. It recently flew at more than 430kph (267mph), according to a report in Spectrum, published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The present record is held by a souped-up Westland Lynx helicopter, which managed 400kph in 1986. But most helicopters can’t fly at anything like these speeds and are typically flat out at 270kph. …
