Spice i2i (M09.SG) +4.0% at $0.130 in above-average volume; stock enjoying 4th session of gains (which breaks losing run since Nov. 18) after it announced the acquisition of NewTel Corp., the second largest local branded handset player in Thailand on Dec. 6.
“It may be early days yet, but the charts show a pickup in volume and the recent news flow on acquisitions show they’re broadening their business after their rights issue,” says a trader at a local house.

Motorola debuted its holiday lineup of Android smartphones at the CTIA Enterprise & Applications show in San Francisco Oct. 5. The phone maker’s collection is led by the Android 2.2-based Droid Pro, which includes AuthenTec IPSec multiheaded VPN integration, remote wipe of device and SD card, and complex password support. Device and SD card encryption will be available in early 2011. Push e-mail with corporate-grade security is also a big draw for the device. Verizon Wireless will sell the device sometime in November, one year after launching its flagship Motorola Droid device. The Motorola Citrus and Spice, both based on Android 2.1, are lower-end models with a focus on the environment. The Citrus is rounded while the Spice is a little longer to support the slideout screen. The Android 2.1-based Flipout and Flipside–cousins to the Motorola Backflip–will also be available in Q4 this year. Bravo provides the encore with a 3.7-inch display. Singapore’s benchmark Straits Times Index rose 0.14 point on Tuesday to 2,818.21 points last night. Singapore shares are likely to rise on Wednesday following an overnight leap on Wall Street that saw the S&P index turn positive for the year.
Chip Eng Seng Corp. (CHIP SP): The Singapore-based homebuilder said its CEL Development Pte unit and Choicehomes Investments Pte submitted the top bid of $223.7 million at a government auction for a residential site in the northeastern part of the city-state. Chip Eng Seng climbed 3.1% to 33.5 Singapore cents.

Spice i2i, the IP communication solutions provider of Voice, Data, Computing services and Mobile Handset distribution, has reported a net loss of US$0.4 million ($0.6 million) for the first quarter (Q1) ended 31 March 2010 although turnover increased 40.8% to US$42.1 million for the first quarter over the same period in 2009.
