Jose González‘s song “Far
Away”, appearing in Red Dead Redemption, won ‘Best Song In A Game’ at the 2010 Spike Video Game
Awards
, which aired on Spike TV on Saturday, December 10. Red Dead Redemption also took home
the evening’s top honor by getting named “Game of the Year”. González, Junip‘s singer and guitarist, was
there and performed “Far Away” live at the awards ceremony which was held at the LA Convention Center. “Far
Away” can be found on the Red Dead Redemption soundtrack. Junip’s version of the song is on the Rope &
Summit EP
, which was released digitally May 25, 2010 and is included in the deluxe version of Fields,
out now.

United Envirotech says unaware of trading activity spike today

United Envirotech says it is not aware of any other possible explanation why there was a substantial increase in the price and volume of its shares today. The reply came in response to a query from the Singapore Exchange.

United Envirotech, which hit an intra-day high of 49.5 cents today, closed 18.1% higher at 49 cents on total volume of 124 million shares.

This week’s issue of The Edge Singapore (Issue 438, Sept 13-19) reported that China’s demand for more efficient water treatment techniques and rapid urbanisation could catapult the company which uses Membrane Bioreactor Filtration technology to recycle waste water into a faster growth trajectory.

Singapore car permit price spike to highest level since 2004

Singapore’s permit fees to buy compact cars and cab surged to the highest since 2004 in a sign that demand for vehicles has jumped as the Asian city-state’s economy has expanded, reported Bloomberg.
 
The permit, known as a certificate of entitlement, or COE, climbed to $28,389 in the latest government auction for vehicles with engine sizes below 1,600 cubic centimeters held today. That’s the most since June 2004. The number of bidders fell by 2 to 1,146, according to data from the Land Transport Authority.
 
The COE’s for cars with engines above 1,601 cubic centimeters increased to $36,089, the most since May 2002.

Apple iPad May Be Causing Spike in App Development

Apple’s iPad tablet PC may be causing a spike in third-party developers building apps for the iPhone OS, according to mobile analytics company Flurry, although the iPhone and Android appear evenly matched in terms of user retention, session frequency and session lengths for their respective applications. Apple has predicted that some 140,000 applications will be available for the iPad upon the device’s release in two months, and is pushing the iPhone SDK 3.2 beta into the developer ecosystem to encourage further building of new programs.
