This is the house that Jerry built. Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, created a state-of-the-art football arena like no other. Cowboys Stadium will be the home of Super Bowl XLV, this years version of the NFLs annual celebration of all things professional football, and eWEEK recently got a look inside the stadium, thanks to Hewlett-Packard. This years game pits the Green Bay Packers against the Pittsburgh Steelers& two teams with physical defenses, mobile and accurate quarterbacks, and a corps of wide receivers that can get to the ball. This years game will be played in the most technologically advanced stadium ever to host a Super Bowl, courtesy of the likes of Cisco Systems and HP. HP has a contract to provide the bulk of the IT that drives the stadium operations. Jones and the Cowboys selected HP because they needed an IT provider that could ensure scalability to support not only the biggest events at the 82,000-seat venue, but also the day-to-day work of the Cowboys and the Jones family of more than 35 other business operations. The $1.2 billion-plus, 3.2-million-square-foot facility is the largest domed stadium in the NFL. The centerpieces of the stadium are the Mitsubishi-built video screens facing the sidelines, which are 70 feet tall and 60 yards in length, spanning the field from one 20-yard line to the other. The $40 million JumboTron& or video board configuration& has 30 million light bulbs and 25,000 square feet of video displays. Meanwhile, two 48-foot wide boards face fans sitting at both ends of the stadium, enhancing their game-day experience. There are also more than 3,100 TV monitors throughout the stadium for attendees to see the action on the field or anything else the Cowboys organization wants to pump into various sections and clubs in the building. As part of a recent ProLiant Day event, HP hosted eWEEK and a group of other journalists and bloggers on a tour of Cowboys Stadium. – …

Apple iPad Banned at Yankee Stadium
Apple’s iPad may be designed to go anywhere, but there’s one place its definitely not allowed: Yankee Stadium, which apparently banned the device out of nebulous "safety and security issues," according to reports. This is ironic considering that Yankee Stadium has a reputation of being particularly tech-friendly, with WiFi and even computer screens on players’ lockers. Despite its popularity, the iPad has run into the occasional issue with regulators since its release, including Israeli authorities concerned about the devices WiFi strength. – Apple touts its iPad as the sort of device you can take

Springsteen To Perform Full Albums at Giants Stadium
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND TO PERFORM
FULL ALBUM SEQUENCES DURING GIANTS STADIUM RUN
BORN TO RUN, DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN, BORN IN THE USA TO BE PERFORMED IN THEIR ENTIRETY
E Street Band :: 09.20.09 :: Chicago by Chad Smith |
In response to the overwhelming fan enthusiasm at Chicago’s Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band live performance of the album Born to Run (read the JamBase review here), Springsteen has decided to perform one classic album each night at East Rutherford, NJ’s Giants Stadium:
09.30 Giants Stadium Born To Run
10.02 Giants Stadium
Darkness on the Edge of Town
10.03 Giants Stadium Born In The USA
10.08 Giants Stadium Born To Run
10.09 Giants Stadium Born In The USA
In Chicago, Bruce began with a varied set list, performed the album portion of the show in the middle of the concert, and continued the show through its grand finale. Said long time manager Jon Landau, “Chicago convinced us that this was really worth doing. The audience was so supportive of the concept that it convinced us to go ahead with this at Giants Stadium.”
Chicago Tribune‘s Greg Kot called that city’s performance “epic,” continuing, “they delivered and then some.”

Byrne Calls Out Bono
On a recent post to his blog, David Byrne totally called out U2 and Bono, bringing to light the estimated cost (both financially and environmental) of their extravagant tour.
Here’s the blog in Byrne’s words:
Thank You U2!
![]() |
Mark E pointed out as we prepped for our show last night in Warsaw (at a not so big club/venue called Stodoła) that these undersized dates are in effect being subsidized by U2′s world tour. The promoter of these dates, and of much of the U2 stadium tour, is Live Nation, the global conglomerate. A venue like Stodoła could not possibly afford to pay for us, the catering, or even their local crew given the relatively small number of tickets to be sold here — and it’s not even an “exclusive” VIP-type venue. It’s not like they can charge $200 a seat and make up their losses that way — this is a standing room club… with a floor made of plywood. So in order to book our date, they must (we figure) be losing money now, then making it up with what they expect to earn on the upcoming U2 stadium dates.
Those stadium shows may possibly be the most extravagant and expensive (production-wise) ever: $40 million to build the stage and, having done the math, we estimate 200 semi trucks crisscrossing Europe for the duration. It could be professional envy speaking here, but it sure looks like, well, overkill, and just a wee bit out of balance given all the starving people in Africa and all. Or maybe it’s the fact that we were booted off our Letterman spot so U2 could keep their exclusive week-long run that’s making me less than charitable? Take your pick — but thanks, guys!
One can only hope Bono responds…
‘Hate crime’ at Danish gay games

A Dane has been charged with committing a hate crime for allegedly throwing fireworks at athletes during a gay sporting event in Copenhagen.
He is accused of throwing fireworks into the Oesterbro stadium where the World Outgames running competitions were being held.
One US athlete suffered a light injury to his hand.
The attack marks the second suspected hate crime at the Outgames after three men were assaulted in the street.
In the stadium incident, the alleged perpetrator was apprehended by runners from the Sparta Athletes club as he attempted to escape.
The 31-year-old suspect told a court he had thrown only one firework against a wall and had not intended to harm the athletes.
Copenhagen Police commissioner Poul B Hansen told the Danish newspaper Politiken it would be surprising if the accused had been unaware the event was for gay people.
"We are certain it was no coincidence that he threw the fireworks where he did – but it is, of course, up to the judge to decide if we are right," he added.
The suspect was remanded in custody for 13 days.
‘Tolerant city’
On Sunday, three gay men from Sweden, Norway and the UK were treated in hospital following an attack by youths in the street.
The attackers have been charged with hate crimes.
Copenhagen mayor Ritt Bjerregaard denounced the attacks.
"We want to show Copenhagen as a multi-cultural and tolerant city," she said.
"It is deeply regrettable that people behave like this."
Some 5,500 participants from 98 countries are in Copenhagen for eight days of sport and culture to promote rights for homosexuals worldwide. </p
