Stanchart says to add 2,000 staff in Singapore by end-2012

Standard Chartered (STAN.L), the emerging markets-focused British lender, plans to add 2,000 more staff jobs at its office in Singapore, a senior bank official said on Friday.

The additions would be completed by the end of 2012, said Ray Ferguson, the head of Standard Chartered’s Singapore office, at the opening of the bank’s new premises at the city’s Marina Bay Financial Centre, which includes a three-floor trading room with 790 seats.

Schoeller-Bleckmann to start Singapore plant with up to 20 staff

Schoeller-Bleckmann Oilfield Equipment AG, an Austrian maker of drilling components for the oil and gas industries, has started to establish a new production site in Singapore.

The site will start off with 15 to 20 staff and first machinery is scheduled for the first half of 2011, Chief Executive Officer Gerald Grohmann said in a telephone interview from Ternitz, Austria today. He declined to say how much Schoeller would be investing in the site.

Standard Chartered Plc, the British lender that earns at least three-quarters of its profit in Asia, plans to increase its staff in Singapore by more than a third over the next three years.

The bank intends to add about 2,000 people to the 6,000 staff it now employs, Ray Ferguson, Standard Chartered’s regional chief executive for Singapore and Southeast Asia, said in Singapore today. The bank expects double-digit annual growth in staff in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam, he said.
