League of Vojvodina Social Democrats (LSV) deputy leader Bojan Kostreš says the national parliament will debate the Vojvodina statute in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Kostreš said that, finally, “the statute and the law on the transfer of authorities were nearing their culmination,†adding that the form of the document would be known in two to three weeks’ time.

The president of the Vojvodina Executive Council has denied that there is a rift within the ruling Democratic Party (DS). Bojan Pajtić, who is also a party official, said it was not true that the DS “branches in Vojvodina and Belgrade” cannot see eye to eye over the draft Vojvodina statute.

The Vojvodina statute won’t be appearing on the parliamentary agenda any time soon, as there is a lack of consensus on the issue, says LSV leader Nenad ÄŒanak. Speaking to B92, ÄŒanak also expressed his wholehearted support for this weekend’s Pride Parade, adding, though, that he did not take this event “very seriously.“

The LSV has warned it would withdraw its support for other bills unless the draft Vojvodina statute makes it to the parliamentary agenda. Parliament Speaker Slavica Äukić-Dejanović said that the timing for introducing the Vojvodina statute to the agenda depends exclusively on the government. She told Novi Sad daily Dnevnik said that she was prepared to have the parliament work during the summer because of the draft statute, but an accompanying law on jurisdiction did not arrive from the cabinet of Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković.
