The Strokes: New Album in March

ANGLES, FIRST ALBUM IN FIVE YEARS, ARRIVES MARCH 22


The Strokes

The Strokes announce the
release date for their highly anticipated fourth album, Angles, on March 22 via RCA records in the
US, and March 21 via Rough Trade Records in the UK. A new single titled “Under Cover of Darkness,” will be heard
on radio starting in February. The complete track-listing for the album can be found below. More details on Angles
will be released in the coming weeks, as will details for a Spring US tour.

Angles is the band’s first new release since 2006′s First Impressions of Earth and marks the
ambition of that album with the immediacy of the band’s earlier albums Is This It (2001) and Room On
Fire
(2003).

THE Mona Lisa’s lure is so strong that Louvre Museum officials find it wise to keep her safely stowed behind bulletproof glass. She is let out of her protective cage once a year, for a whiff of fresh air. And this is when many a researcher would love to get their hands on Leonardo da Vinci’s most famous muse, in order to find out more about how she was painted.

For a long time, scientists and curators have wondered how da Vinci created shadows on her face with seemingly no brushstrokes or contours. Art experts call this shadowing technique sfumato—like the Italian word for smoke, fumo. Experts have long suspected sfumato shadowing has something to do with the glazes that da Vinci used above the paint layer. But proving this has been difficult because snatching a sample of the Mona Lisa’s face for chemical analysis is, unsurprisingly, frowned upon. …

The Strokes Make Live Return

NEW ALBUM DUE NEXT YEAR

In preparation for their upcoming summer festival dates, The Strokes made their live
return last night, playing their first show in four years at Dingwalls, a 450-person venue in London’s Camden
neighborhood, under the pseudonym Venison.

Outside Lands Music Festival will take place August 14-15, 2010 in Golden Gate Park
in San Francisco, CA. The organizers announced the full lineup for this year’s

Splendour in the Grass, one of Australia’s most celebrated music festivals, is set to commemorate its 10-year anniversary with its most exciting event yet.

The beautiful site of Woodfordia in the QLD Sunshine Coast hinterland will play host to
Splendour in the Grass in this very special anniversary year. And this year, the birthday party will take place over
three magnificent days from Friday July 30 to Sunday August 1. More than 80 acts that will perform across the three
main stages – the Amphitheatre, Mix Up tent and G.W McLennan stage.

Isle Of Wight 2010: Jay-Z, Strokes, Blondie

ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL DATES SET FOR JUNE 11-13, 2010

The U.K.’s Isle of Wight Festival is back, to be held June 11-13, 2010, once again in beautiful Seaclose Park. Maintaining the tradition of featuring some of the biggest names in music, while taking pride in showcasing up and coming talent, festival organizers are excited to announce the 2010 lineup.

Headlining the main stage June 11 will be Jay-Z, followed by The Strokes on June 12, and concluding with Pink June 13. Also making a special appearance on Saturday, June 12 is Blondie

“Ever since I heard the first Strokes album, I’ve wanted them for the Isle of Wight,” explains Festival promoter John Giddings. “Jay-Z and Pink are two of the best live acts I have ever seen and the Blondie hits speak for themselves.”

Not to be forgotten, The Big Top kicks things off on Thursday, June 10 with Squeeze performing a campers only show. Saturday then sees the Top play host to electronic tandem Orbital.
