Brothers Past: First Volume of Digital Boxset Released

10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION ROLLS OUT

Everything Must Go Vol. 1

Electro pioneers Brothers Past will mark its 10th year performing together with a series of monthly releases that will simultaneously look forwards and backwards by releasing new music on the 10th of every month for the next year as part of a digital box set entitled Everything Must Go. The quartet, known for its prowess both in the studio and live, will spotlight both of these aspects with each release containing a soundboard recording of a live performance from throughout the band’s ten-year history as well as a previously unreleased studio track.

The first installment of the series, released this past Sunday, features a studio cut of the song “Getaway Somehow” and the band’s November 20, 2004 performance at the Eclipse Theater in Waitsfield, VT. This music is released digitally via guitarist Tom Hamilton’s Shoots and Boots label and can be purchased through the band’s website.

“This is an opportunity for us to celebrate everything we’ve accomplished throughout our career and also experiment with a way to get our music directly into the hands of our fans,” says keyboardist Tom McKee. “We’ve been wanting to try something like this for a long time and the anniversary celebration is a great reason to dig into our past and release some music that deserves to see the light of day.”

For much of the past year, the band has been in the studio recording its next release, expected some time in 2011. The Everything Must Go series marks the first new studio material Brothers Past has released since its acclaimed effort This Feeling’s Called Goodbye, released on SCIFidelity Records in 2005.

Lucasfilm to build studio in Singapore

Star Wars creator Lucasfilm will soon start construction of its first purpose-built overseas production facility in Singapore, the US movie and animation giant said on Tuesday, according to AFP.

The eight-storey, 409,000 square-foot studio complex will be located in a technology hub known as Fusionopolis and contain a data centre, a 100-seat theatre and retail outlets.

Lucasfilm, the hit-making vehicle of director George Lucas, set up operations at rented offices near Changi Airport in 2005 and now has 400 international staff in Singapore.

The new building will be ready for staff by 2012 and will house Lucasfilm Singapore’s three local divisions –special effects firm Industrial Light and Magic, game developer Lucasarts and Lucasfilm Animation.

"Our teams on both sides of the world – in the US and in Singapore – continue to thrive," said Micheline Chau, president and chief operating officer of Lucasfilm.

"We’re immensely proud of the amazing work that continues to come out of the Singapore studio and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by giving them a permanent, state-of-the-art, collaborative work environment to call home."

The Singapore team currently produces the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" as well as the Nintendo DS game "Jedi Alliance."

A fact sheet provided by Lucasfilm said Singapore staff have worked on special effects and animation for Hollywood hits such as the "Transformers" franchise, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and "Iron Man 2".

Lucasfilm Singapore is also working with "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski on "Rango", a fully-animated film about a chameleon forced to live his dreams of being a swashbuckling hero in a bandit-infested cowboy town.

The film will be released in 2011, with "Pirates" lead Johnny Depp voicing the main character.
