Sustainable palm oil body censures Indonesia’s PT Smart

An industry body for sustainable palm oil has made its first public censure of a member, saying Indonesia’s PT Smart Tbk (SMAR.JK) breached its principles and may face sanctions, and also ticked off the firm’s parent.

Smart last month released an independent audit after Greenpeace alleged Smart bulldozed high conservation value forests and damaged carbon-rich peatlands. The audit gave Smart a mixed score card, highlighting some instances in which Indonesia’s environmental laws were breached.

SPH +1.5%; Advertising growth sustainable, says UBS

Singapore Press Holdings (T39.SG) is up 1.5% at $3.99 as media group’s fiscal 3Q results, guidance supportive.

UBS, which has Buy call with $4.50 target, expects advertising revenue growth to remain resilient as SPH is proxy to Singapore economy.

“We expect this trend to continue in the coming quarters, especially since areas such as retail, tourism and the job market could sustain their growth in the near term.”

Lian Beng +1.8%; Building demand sustainable, says DMG

Lian Beng Group (L03.SG) +1.8% at $0.285, supported by news of construction group winning $88.3 million contract to build Singapore condo, its fourth project for private residential sector since March, says Dow Jones.

“We see demand for construction services to be sustained on the back of public infrastructure and private property projects rolling out,” says DMG, which has no rating on stock.

Contract value tad more than entire $82.9 million revenue for quarter ended February, expected to boost earnings for current FY ending May 2011.

Current interest tame as gains not accompanied by firm volume. Resistance expected at last month’s $0.30 high.
