Bosnia-Herzegovina FM Sven Alkalaj stated on Thursday that, by the end of this year, this country could submit the application for EU candidate status.
“During September or October at the latest, we expect defining of EU foreign policy, which implies the introduction of a special EU representative for the Western Balkans. The implementation of such a policy would make it possible for our country to apply for the candidate status, without fulfilling the conditions 5+2,” Alkalaj told to daily OsloboÄ‘enje.

Croatian Bosnian, Turkish FMs meet
The foreign ministers of Turkey, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina met on Wednesday in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday. Ahmet Davutoglu, Gordan Jandroković and Sven Alkalaj agreed that the relations between these three countries are of strategic importance for the improvement of the general situation in southeastern Europe.
Bosnian FM: Relations stagnating
Bosnia’s FM Sven Alkalaj says that concrete progresses in improving ties between his country and Serbia was regularly conditioned by the political situation. “We think that Serbia’s interest in the welfare of Serbs who live in Bosnia-Herzegovina is legitimate, however, what’s worrisome is the way and methods with which Serbia is trying to influence the issues which are originally and exclusively interior-political issues of Bosnia-Herzegovina,” the FM told Belgrade daily Blic.
“Ganić arrest does not improve relations”
Bosnian FM Sven Alkalaj told his Serbian counterpart Vuk Jeremić that the arrest of Ejup Ganić was “not the way to improve relations”. The former Muslim member of the Bosnian war-time presidency is currently in jail in London, arrested on Serbia’s war crimes warrant.
Trilateral meeting on Balkans and Bosnia
Foreign ministers of Turkey, Serbia and Bosnia will meet in Ankara today to discuss the latest developments in the Balkans, particularly in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Today’s meeting of Ahmet Davutoglu, Vuk Jeremić and Sven Alkalaj will be the fifth since October 2009, when the initiative was launched.

“Bosnia not training terrorists”
Bosnian FM Sven Alkalaj has rejected as unfounded the warnings of his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman that the Balkans will Al-Qaeda’s next target. Alkalaj said Bosnia was firmly dedicated to fighting terrorism, and stressed that according to the intelligence gathered by this country and international organizations, there are no terrorist training camps there.
