T-Mobile Makes Google Default Search, Replacing Yahoo

T-Mobile USA has replaced Yahoo with Google as its default search engine on mobile phones, such as BlackBerry smartphones. Yahoo says it will continue to work with T-Mobile, citing the recent partnership on Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger and on content services such as the placement of various Yahoo services on T-Mobile’s Web2Go portal. Default search deals significantly improve search engine market share, as users are more likely to carry out searches through the search engine presented by the browser.

Hockey Add Tour Dates

Portland’s Hockey pick up in 2010 right where they left off in ’09; touring the globe in support of their debut album Mind Chaos. After a string of West Coast dates, the foursome will play shows in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain and the U.K., before returning home to headline a club tour starting March 11 in Minneapolis.

The band’s new single “Song Away” hits Alternative radio on February 9 and the video was named one of the best of 2009 by iTunes as part of iTunes Rewind 2009. Hockey’s breakout first single “Too Fake” reached #25 at alternative radio and is still being spun at many stations around the country.

Hockey played their first New York City show last January and have since toured the globe non-stop, including the U.K. three times, U.S. festivals SXSW, Sasquatch!, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and CMJ, and almost every major European festival including Glastonbury, Hove, Peace and Love, Eurockenees, Solidays, Oxegen, T In The Park and Gurtenfestival, Leeds and Reading.

Additionally they have performed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Fuel TV‘s Daily Habit, and on Later With Jools Holland and Live From Abbey Road in the U.K. Hockey’s Live From Abbey Road appearance will air in the U.S. on the Sundance Channel March 26.

Formed in Los Angeles five years ago by lead singer Ben Grubin and bassist Jeremy “Jerm” Reynolds, Hockey is now based in Portland, OR as a quartet with Brian White on guitar and Anthony Stassi on drums.

The 52nd Annual Grammy Nominations were announced last night, including some relevant JamBase artists. To be eligible for an award, artists must have released a recording between October 1, 2008 and August 31, 2009.

Among those receiving nominations were David Byrne and Brian Eno‘s Everything That Happens Will Happen Today for Best Alternative Music Album, Dave Matthews Band‘s Big Whiskey And The Groogrux King for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album, Kings of Leon‘s “Use Somebody” for Song of the Year, Silversun Pickups and Zac Brown Band for Best New Artist, Bela Fleck‘s “Throw Down Your Heart” for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, T Bone Burnett for Producer of the Year, Steve Earle for Best Contemporary Folk Album for Townes, Neko Case earned two nominations for her album Middle Cyclone, one for Best Contemporary Folk Album and the other for Best Recording Package, Mos Def got the nod for Best Rap Album, and Phish‘s Clifford Ball DVD Box Set for Best Boxed or Limited Edition Package.

Beyonce led all artists with 10 nominations, while Kanye West, Jay-Z, Maxwell, Lady GaGa, and Taylor Swift all received a predictably large amount of nods.

The Grammys will be held on January 31, 2010 in Los Angeles. Major category nominations are listed below.

ATandT Named Top ‘Green’ Carrier by ABI Research

An ABI Research report has named AT T the top “green” carrier, followed closely by Sprint Nextel. Separately, data from Juniper Research reveals that the push for greener mobility is coming as the direct result of consumer demand.
