Maybank to acquire stake in Singapore stock broker-source
Malaysia’s Maybank (MBBM.KL) is to acquire a stake in Singaporean stock broker Kim Eng (KEHS.SI) from a Taiwanese investor, a source with direct knowledge of the deal told Reuters on Thursday.
Taiwan’s Yuanta Financial Holdings (2885.TW) owns about 28% of Kim Eng.
Shares in Maybank and Kim Eng were suspended from trade on Thursday.
A Maybank official said the company would hold a press conference later in the day but declined to elaborate.

Singapore’s ship-chartering firm Marco Polo Marine (MAPM.SI) said on Monday it plans to issue Taiwan depository receipts (TDR) to broaden its investor base.
Marco Polo Marine is in the process of hiring external financial institutions to begin preparatory work for the TDR issue and it will apply for regulatory approval with the relevant Taiwanese authorities, the firm said.
It will decide further details of the proposed TDR issue at a later stage, Marco Polo Marine said in a statement.

ECS up at record-high on TDR plans
Shares of ECS Holdings (ECSH.SI), a Singapore-listed IT products distributor, rose as much as around 6% to a record high after it told Reuters it hopes to raise around US$50 million ($64.8 million) from the listing of its Taiwan Depository Receipts.

Taiwan, Singapore to discuss economic cooperation: Update
Taiwan will formally start talks with Singapore on a trade accord early next year after signing an agreement with China in June.
Feasibility studies show an economic cooperation agreement would offer “significant mutual benefits,” the trade offices of the two sides said in a joint statement today. The statement didn’t give details of dates or where the talks will be held.
Singapore, Taiwan to negotiate trade deal in early 2011
Singapore said Wednesday it will begin formal negotiations with Taiwan on a trade liberalization deal early next year, after both sides concluded separately that such a pact would be mutually beneficial.

The TDR listing aims to broaden and diversify the company’s shareholder base and provide it with an additional fund-raising platform for future expansion.
