Quintron & Miss Pussycat: New Album & Tour Dates

NEW ALBUM OUT APRIL 12 VIA GONER RECORDS

Sucre Du Sauvage

Quintron and Miss Pussycat
will release their new album, Sucre Du Sauvage on April 12 via Goner Records. The album was
recorded From January 29th through May 2nd of 2010, where Quintron punched a time clock and reported to work
at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) to write and record the album in a public gallery space. Quintron’s intent
behind the museum recording studio was not to entertain visiting museum goers with any kind of performance, but
to completely ignore them and go about the business of making this record. When needed, viewers would be pulled
into the process and used for backing vocals, hand claps, grunting, etc.

During the final seven days of recording, Quintron chose to imprison himself within the museum and its surrounding
grounds – a beautiful swampy nature preserve called “New Orleans City Park.” He would roam the park by night
making field recordings and then weave them into the final mixes of the album by day.

The NOMA sessions produced literally thousands of hours of tape. The album is the cream of that crop – the
Sucre Du Sauvage. There was no post production or overdubs. When the exhibit closed, the album was
finished. All tour dates are available below.

Dead Confederate Extend Tour Adds Dates With Alberta Cross

TOURING IN SUPPORT OF SUGAR OUT AUGUST 24

Dead Confederate

Athens, Georgia-based quintet Dead
Confederate
are extending their North American tour into the fall, adding co-headlining dates with New
York-based roots rockers Alberta
Cross
. Dead Confederate are touring in support of their upcoming sophomore release
Sugar, due on August 24 on TAO Recordings/Old Flame. Prior to the Alberta Cross dates, they’ll
be touring with Deer Tick and playing
a Bumbershoot after party with Surfer
Blood
.

Sugar, recorded by John Agnello (The Hold Steady, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.), was shaped by touring with
legends such as Dinosaur Jr. and Meat Puppets and gave Dead
Confederate an increased appreciation for the early underground bands of the 80s and 90s that laid the foundation
on which their sound is built. As a result, the record explores new styles beyond the aching, bleak psychedelia with
which the band originally made their mark.

Dead Confederate is also sharing new music in exchange for an email address. Head over to DeadConfederate.com to download the appropriately titled track,
“Giving It All Away” (featuring J. Mascis, of Dinosaur Jr.). Also at DeadConfederate.com is some fantastic in-studio
footage with more new music!

Charging for content: Media’s two tribes

Some media outfits chase scale, while others pursue premium pricing

IS IT better to take a little money from a lot of people, or a lot of money from a few? In Britain the Times and the Sunday Times newspapers are about to take the latter course by asking people to pay for news online. It is a bold move: the Times, which is owned by News Corporation, is a mainstream paper in a fiercely competitive national market. And the paywall it is building is a mighty one that is impervious even to Google’s web crawlers.

Paywalls are rising across the media landscape as many firms conclude that revenue from online advertising alone is not enough to make ends meet. The Tallahassee Democrat, a newspaper owned by Gannett, starts charging from July 1st. Hulu, a free video website that was launched in America in 2008, said this week that it would begin selling subscriptions. …

Dead Confederate: Free Download Preview of New Album, Tour

A JAMBASE FAVE RETURNS WITH NEW ALBUM IN AUGUST

Dead Confederate will return with their sophomore album, Sugar, on August 24th via TAO Recordings/Old Flame. Sugar was recorded by John Agnello (The Hold Steady, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.) and as Dead Confederate’s Hardy Morris (guitar/lead vocals) explains, “We’re a loud, big-sounding band, and wanted the album to be fun and creative – instead of just recording the songs. It’s not like we decided we couldn’t have anything grungy or heavy; that’s just not all that we’re interested in. You can listen to the record a bunch of different ways. What we were doing felt right.”

In support of Sugar‘s release, Dead Confederate will be hitting the road, including dates with Deer Tick and a Bumbershoot after party with Surfer Blood.
More fall dates to be announced very soon.
